Google yesterday unveiled its Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones to the world, but some people on the internet are unable to get over the fact about how similar it looks to the iPhone.
Google yesterday unveiled the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, which have been been designed, conceptualized, and engineered, all in-house. Essentially, the two new smartphones are the ‘phones by Google’ in true sense of it. While most fans and critics are arguing that the Pixel smartphones will stand head-to-head against the Apple iPhones, some are convinced that they might as well just stand shoulder-to-shoulder because they are just the same! Many users on Twitter are persuaded that the Google Pixel is simply an iPhone with a headphone jack, and running on Android.
Now if you look at it, the Google Pixel does feature a very derivative design to the iPhone, particularly the iPhone 6 and above. Also, the smartphones come with Siri-like virtual assistant, the Google Assistant, which is also Google Now successor. Both the smartphones sport an aluminum back, and a glass front forming a shell that really feels like it’s worth the price tag. Talking about the price tag, just like the iPhones, the Google Pixel smartphones are priced on the high-end. In India, the 32GB Google Pixel will be priced at Rs 57,000, whereas the 128GB variant is priced at Rs 66,000. The Google Pixel XL, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 67,000 for 32GB variant and Rs 76,000 for the 128GB variant.
Further, the iPhone and Pixel share similar bezel sizes, however the iPhone has the excuse of having a hardware home button, which on the Pixel smartphones sit at the back instead. The only unique part of the Pixel smartphone’s design is the glass window on the rear, which both allows RF signals to escape and serves as the camera lens. There is another minor difference in design between the two smartphone, the design on the sides, which starts as a rounded edge on the Pixel is interrupted by a bezel around the perimeter of the back. The Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are first from Google to come pre-installed with Google Assistant, a voice-based digital assistant, out-of-the-box. The Google phones also feature the improved version of Google Now, the Google Assistant, which is smarter, and enables users to perform multiple tasks using voice commands. It also supports contextual search, just like Google’s Now on Tap. Other than that, the both the smartphones come pre-installed with Google’s new video-calling app, Duo, and its AI-based messaging app, Allo. For easy purchasing, Google will be offering interest free EMI programs and upgrade offers to the customers. Pixel users will have an access to a toll free phone support number along with 54 walk in service centers in over 30 cities across India. India is one of the first six countries where Google’s new smartphones will be launched in the first wave. Both Pixel and Pixel XL will go on pre-order starting October 13 on Flipkart and other multi-brand retail stores including Reliance Digital, Croma and Vijay sales among others.
