Datawind, the manufacturer of Aakash tablets, has launched three affordable Android tablets under its UbiSlate series – the UbiSlate 7Cx, UbiSlate 3G7 and UbiSlate 9Ci. The first two are 7-inch tablets which come equipped with voice calling capabilities, while the UbiSlate 9Ci offers a 9-inch display and data connectivity over Wi-Fi. These tablets are priced between Rs 3,999 to Rs 6,999.
The UbiSlate 7Cx is the cheapest among the three tablets and is available for Rs 3,999. Talking of specifications, it comes with a 7-inch TFT display and runs on a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor with 512MB of RAM and 2GB of internal memory. On the software front, it comes with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on board. It offers cellular connectivity on EDGE, a microSD card slot and microUSB support, and also features G-sensor. DataWind says that the tablet comes with its web-delivery platform that allows the device to deliver “the fastest mobile web experience on regular GSM-EDGE based networks.”
The UbiSlate 9Ci, is the company’s 9-inch tablet that runs on Anrdoid 4.1 Jelly Bean. It is powered by a Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1GHz with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via the microSD card slot. Other features include a VGA front facing camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, and G-sensor. This tablet does not support a SIM card. It is priced at Rs 4,999.
The UbiSlate 3G7 is the premium offering among the three with 3G connectivity. Features-wise, it comes with a 7-inch TFT display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage and comes with a microSD card slot. However, it is a let down on the software front as it runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, while the UbiSlate 9Ci runs a relatively recent version of Android.
The tablet features dual cameras – a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front facing camera. Besides this having inbuilt 3G connectivity where users don’t have to rely on an external USB dongle, it supports Wi-Fi too. The MRP for the tablet is Rs 6,999.
There is no word on the battery for any of the tablets.

SYNC® AppLink™ allows greater communication between smartphone apps and AppLink-equipped vehicles through voice commands and will be launched in India in 2014.

With Ford SYNC® AppLink™, customers can control applications on their smartphones from the driver’s seat using voice controls through the Ford SYNC voice activated connectivity system.
SYNC® AppLink™ will allow greater integration with a range of smartphone apps. The platform is planned to be introduced in India with ESPNcricinfo, MapmyIndia, burrp!, Glympse, TuneIn Radio while encouraging app developers to come up and add new applications.

With its presence as the only automobile manufacturer at Mobile Developer Summit in Bangalore, Ford is reaching out to the mobile developer community to develop market specific apps in India and globally.
Undertaken through its Global Developer Program, Ford will invite software developers to create voice-activated mobile app experiences for Ford vehicles. The information to learn about the AppLink application programming interface (API) will be available on the Developer Program website, http://developer.ford.com. The developer site features online forums to discuss app development and related issues. Once submitted to Ford, an app is thoroughly tested and reviewed for usability and suitability for Ford AppLink-enabled vehicles. After Ford works out a distribution license with the developer, the app can be released to customers.
