Save interesting News Feed items for later

Just in case you come across something interesting on your News Feed, but you don’t have ample time to check it, you can save it to view later. Bookmark links, videos, places and photos. This can be done from the More tab on the Facebook app for mobile. From there select Saved.

Don’t receive a game request again

You can keep yourself away, annoying Facebook game requests from spamming you . This is available in More tab.

Select Settings -> Account Settings -> Notifications -> Mobile -> Scroll down further and un-check Application Invites

Your profile picture can be turned into an animated GIF



Make an animated profile picture on Facebook

On your Facebook mobile app, click on your profile picture-> Take a New Profile Video, to upload a small video loop of yourself. This looks like an animated GIF as the video repeats again.

Articles that have a lightning bolt load natively on Facebook. This means that these posts will load faster as there are fewer ads. These are Facebook’s Instant Articles. They load directly on the app with minimal clean layout. It is believed to load up to ten times faster. So next time look out for a lightning bolt.

Auto-play of videos on your News Feed can be stopped

In case you do not want Facebook to automatically play the videos on you r News Feed, there is a setting that will stop videos from playing automatically. Go to More Tab ->Select Videos and Photos ->Auto-Play over cellular and Wi-Fi only can be enabled or never auto-play.

Activity Log documents all your activities form the past

Your Activity Log on Facebook keeps track of all that you have likes, shared and commented on the social network. This can be easily accessed from the mobile app and also the Desktop verison.

Choose profiles and pages that you don’t want to miss

In case there are certain people and pages that you want to view first on your News Feed, you can choose which one to view first.

Go to Settings ->News Feed Preferences and get started. All the people and pages that have been marked in a blue star are the ones chosen by you, to keep track of the posts.

Differentiate a Friend and a Follower

You first got to know the difference between a friend and a follower. You can connect with someone on Facebook through two ways. You can either become a friend with someone or follow them.

Being a friend means that both you and the other person have approved the connection and know each other mostly. When you follow a person it means that the particular person hasn’t added you back as a friend. Followers can only view posts that are shared publicly. Turn off the ability to allow people to follow you. Go to Account Settings -> Followers

View your profile like public and specific friends

This is a really good feature from Facebook. You can see what your profile looks like to others. Individual friends and public view of your profile can be checked from this feature.

Go to your profile-> Click Ellipsis, View as…

Hide posts from specific people

Whenever you share a post, you can choose to hide the post from specific people.  The posts can be shared with friends, friends of friends or anyone who can view your profile.  The selection of audience of your post, can be chosen form the drop down menu that shows up the top right of the post. On the Edit Privacy option, choose the friends or choose the globe icon. Select Friends except…  to hide it from select people or the Custom option to have a customised list.

Hide your friend list

If you don’t want others to know who you are friends with, you have the option to hide your entire list.  Click the Manage pen icon from your Friend’s list – Edit Privacy. Form there choose you can see your friend list and the people you follow and followers.

Hide relationship status change

You can prevent relationship changes from being seen by others except you. The change will not show up in News feeds. Go to Family and Relationships in About -> change the privacy setting to Only Me

Hide photo albums and events

You can hide specific photo albums and events that show up on your timeline. If there are certain photo  albums  that you don’t want people to see, and you don’t want to delete it either, you can hide them. Also certain events of your life can be hidden from others. There is a gray icon next to the photo album or post. You can choose to select the audience of the album and events from there.

Block people

You can block people from contacting you. In case there is someone spamming you, go to their profile page and click on the three dots-> Select Block.  A blocked person will not be able to view your profile. Also you will not be able to view their profile.

Track devices from where you login and remotely logout

You can see where you are logged in on Facebook and you can also remotely logout. Tap the More tab -> Account Settings -> Security -> Active Sessions. Tap the X to remotely log out from a device you logged in previously. On the desktop site there is a Where You’re Logged In that shows active logins and you can end them from there.

Get notified when there is a login attempt

Login alerts and Login Approvals can be enabled from Security settings. So every time some one tires to  login to your account, get alerted and approve or deny the same. You will get a notification or email. Login Approvals can be made based on a code that is sent to your mobile.

Customise the notifications

Adjust the notifications and the number of notifications that you get. You can also customise what kind of notifications you get from Facebook. including the updates you get when you have joined an event. Enable the settings from the Notifications section.

Turn off Birthday notifications

In case you don’t want to be reminded of your friends’ birthday everyday, turn the notifications off. Go to Notification tab and turn the birthdays off.

Get notified when a specific person updates something

You can get alerted when a specific person posts something. Click the Friends drop down menu on the desktop site and then click Get Notifications. You can also search for posts liked or commented by a specific person.

Make your search specific

You can search for specific keywords and topics apart from profiles and pages. All that is publicly shared on social media is searchable. So you can view any related post or news related to the search query.

Create a separate list of people

Make a separate list of your friends on Facebook. Like school,  work, hometown etc. This comes handy to filter and follow. It lets you create individual News Feeds when you browse.

Unsubscribe unwanted notifications

Click on the X next to the notification to Turn off notifications from posts that you have commented. You can also receive notifications from the comments you have made.

Bid goodbye to Facebook

Before permanently deleting a Facebook account you can download all your data.
