Do you travel frequently around the world and really prefer to have only one phone? If that phone happens to be LG G4, then you may have faced issues while having compatible high-speed Internet bands. Well, that’s not because of the G4’s ability to support any less number of bands, but because some of the the bands might not be activated by default.
The good news is that an XDA user, duraaraa, has found a work-around to activate the hidden bands, provided you have root access to your device. Root access is required to put the phone in DIAG mode, the rest is done using the DFS software from cdmatool.
Here’s the bands listed by LG, which support G4 by default:
2G Bands GSM – 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G bands HSDPA – 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100,
4G bands LTE bands – 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 17(700), 20(800), 28(700)
Nevertheless, if you look into the hidden Settings menu, you could find more. To know about all HSDPA bands, do this: Dial 277634#*#, then tap on Field test, Modem settings, Networks mode (choose LTE band selection for LTE bands info).
This guide will walk you through the steps to enable the hidden HSDPA and LTE bands on your LG G4. Though it is recommended that you only proceed if you know what you’re doing, otherwise you may end up losing network bands. But that’s still not a big deal as you can reinstate to previous settings by flashing an official firmware or even a custom ROM with modem file.
Pre-Requisites
Ensure that your LG G4 is rooted with the latest CWM or TWRP recovery tool and its bootloader is unlocked.
This guide assumes that you already have ADB and LG drivers installed on your system. If you don’t, head over and download ADB and LG drivers (Windows ll Mac).

Enable LG G4 Hidden HSDPA and LTE Bands
Step 1: Download CDMAtool. A free trial works fine for this.
Step 2: Connect your G4 to your PC. In an adb shell, execute the following:
su
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/lg_diag_cmd/diag_enable
Step 3: Unplug and re-plug your USB cable. Your phone is now in diag mode (although you wouldn’t know any better because you don’t get any special device names in Device Manager).
Step 4: Open DFS which you downloaded in step 1. Close the account window and the actual software will launch.
Step 5: Double click your device to put a checkmark by it in DFS.
Step 6: Click the Band tab. Choose ‘RF BC Config’ at the bottom. Then, choose ‘read’.
Step 7: Make sure your bands are displayed. Check the extra bands you want to add.
Step 8: Click ‘Write’.
Step 9: Click the LTE tab. Click ‘Read’. Check the bands you want to add, click ‘write’. Then, choose ‘LTE BC Config DIV LTE #6829′ at the bottom and repeat the process again there.
Step 10: Reboot your phone and pray.
Step 11: Go into the hidden menu and test the new bands. If they work, you will see SUCCESS when you press them in the Settings menu.
