Seedstars World, the team organising the global seed-stage startup competition has been on an African tour, and they were in Lagos last night for this year’s iteration. After receiving around 100 applications, the team selected eight startups to pitch at the event. The selected startups, Davtonlearn, Tuteria, Legal Form, Piggybank.ng, Quick Gas, Kangpe, Grit Systems, and Social Lender startups were all below 2 years old, received less than $500k in funding, showed traction and were scalable.

The representatives from each startup was given 5 minutes to pitch their product, and another 5 minutes to take questions about it. After the presentations were done, the judges, Simeon Ononobi, Benjamin Benaim, Juliet Nwanguma & Tidjane Deme, pronounced Davtonlearn the second runner-up, Tuteria the first runner-up, and Kangpe (the service that connects patients with doctors via a mobile app and/or SMS) the winner. The win they’ve bagged comes with a place at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland, where they’ll attend a weeklong training programme and eventually pitch in front of 1000 people for a $1 million equity investment.
