The Obama administration is delaying another piece of Obamacare – this time postponing online enrollment in some of the small-business exchanges scheduled to open Oct. 1, sources tell POLITICO.
Small businesses looking to enroll in coverage on so-called SHOP exchanges run by the federal government will be able to submit a paper application on Oct. 1 – they just won’t be able to enroll online.
So now big businesses, small businesses, unions, and Congress are seeing delays from President Obama. Yet he still refuses to delay the law for America.
Reuters reports that so far, the delay is only for a month, but it’s just the latest in the many delays of Obamacare’s components. It’s also the second SHOP delay this year:
On May 31, the administration confirmed in a final rule that it will delay for one year — until 2015 — an aspect of the Small Business Health Options Program because it is too complex for insurers to implement by 2014. Under the ACA, SHOP allows small businesses to offer either a single plan to all of their workers or select a benefit level and allow employees to choose among several plans offered at that level.
The delay applies only to the portion of SHOP in which employees can select from multiple plans.
President Obama has long claimed Obamacare will benefit the American people. Between the delays related to incompetence and political gain, as well as those due to the size and monstrosity of Obamacare, it’s clear the law is not ready to go. The President should delay Obamacare for all Americans, not just special interests, in order to give every person relief from the law.
If Obama continues his intransigence, Republicans in Congress must hold him accountable and demand a delay. To do otherwise is a dereliction of duty from all of our elected officials in Washington.
