Charities in England have raised concerns that changes to special educational needs (SEN) provision in England are being implemented too quickly.
Special needs statements will be replaced from September with "education, health and care statements", which have the aim of providing more holistic support, the BBC reports.
Mark Lever of the National Autistic Society said the details of the reforms have yet to be finalised and expressed concerns that some aspects remain under review. These include details on how families could challenge decisions made about support for their children.
This could undermine some of the government’s changes, Mr Lever claimed. His comments were echoed by learning disability charity Mencap, which also raised concerns about the timeframe of the reforms.
The government's changes are intended to give children and young people with SEN and their parents greater control over the services they receive. It says the changes to the system will "take place gradually".
