Lady GaGa’s meat dress has been voted the most controversial red carpet moment of all time, according to a new survey.

Liz Hurley and her 1994 daring Versace safety pin dress followed closely behind in second place.

With the Grammy Awards taking place tonight, we can only expect that there is going to be more controversial red carpet moments, with Lady GaGa and Miley Cyrus the most likely for them.

The research from Charles Worthington found that Angelina Jolie’s thigh-high split black dress at the 2012 Oscars was the third most controversial. But she seems to have redeemed herself in 2013 as one third of Brits have named her as the celebrity who has had the most hits on the red carpet last year.

Unsurprisingly Geri Halliwell’s BRIT Awards union jack dress and Bjork’s swan dress from the 2001 Oscars rounded out the top five most controversial Red Carpet moments of all time.

Charles Worthington, now in his sixth consecutive year as Official Hairstylist for the EE British Academy Film Awards, said: “Stars like Lady Gaga and Elizabeth Hurley might raise a few eyebrows on the red carpet with their brave fashion choices, but for me it’s the hair that can really make or break a red carpet look. Lady Gaga would be an absolute scream to style because she’s so out there – there would be no parameters as to what you could do with her. She’d want something completely outrageous which would be really fun to do. I’ve never worked with Angelina Jolie but I think she’d be fabulous.”

Stars wishing to shine on the Red Carpet this awards season should look to Hollywood icons of yesteryear for inspiration as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly both appear in the top five best dressed ladies of all time on the Red Carpet.

Kate Middleton’s loose, glossy waves have been crowned the most iconic red carpet hair of all time followed by the must have Style of the 90’s – Jennifer Aniston’s ‘Rachel’ cut. Hot on their heels were Marilyn Monroe’s classic bleached curls and Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway’s pixie crops.

When it comes to red carpet hair envy, it’s simple, sleek and glossy hair that triumphs with Jennifer Aniston’s effortless look topping the list followed by brunette Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson’s golden beach waves.
