Tax News:
The new year is almost upon us. I’m sure that you have lots of things you hope to accomplish in 2015. Resolving to communicate better? Stay on top of all of the latest and greatest tax news? Network a little more?
I have just the thing: tax Twitter accounts to follow.
If you’re already on Twitter, the following list will make sense to you.
If you’re not already on Twitter, let me take a few words to explain to you how valuable Twitter can be. Twitter is a social media site without the bells and whistles (and weird pressure) of Facebook. It’s a quick exchange of information, limited to 140 characters. You can tweet opinions, news, pictures or links or simply lurk online and watch your feed, though it’s certainly more fun when you engage with others. Think of it like a cocktail party – only you don’t have to dress up if you don’t want to. You can tweet at work or in your pajamas. You can even have a drink while you tweet if you wish: nobody will be any the wiser.
Twitter can be overwhelming if you don’t know who to follow. Heck, it can be overwhelming when you do. The key to enjoying Twitter is to find the right mix of folks to follow. So for the New Year, I’ve compiled a list of what I think are the top 100 tax Twitter accounts to follow, grouped by kind.
Some of them are witty and amusing. Some of them are a bit on the dry side (this is tax stuff, after all). Some of them are heavy on the self-promotion and others can be all over the map. That’s kind of how Twitter works. But I find all 100 of them to be valuable when it comes to tax news and updates, tax analysis and tax tips. As tax season kicks off (it happens on January 20, 2015), here are the top 100 tax Twitter accounts to follow, together with their profiles:

If you find yourself on this list, well, er, congrats. That’s all there is. There are no fancy badges, no banners, nothing you can post on your LinkedIn profile that makes you any more special than you were a few moments ago except that you know that I like you, I really like you.
Keep in mind that this list is totally subjective. There’s no fancy algorithm. I didn’t count tweets or followers. I didn’t do any kind of scientific poll. I just happen to think these twitter feeds are tops in tax. But just because I think someone is an amazing twitter follow doesn’t mean that my editor does. Or that Forbes does. So take that for what it’s worth.
And while there are lots of folks that I find entertaining and wonderful twitter feeds to follow, this was all about tax. I’m sure that I left out some really cool folks by accident (although it’s possible that it was on purpose). It happens. If I did, you can kindly let me know in the comments – kindly being the operative word.
Tweet on.
