Berry’s big shoes to fill & Nick Weiler reaches out to his fellow kicker in need

Carolina Blue | Ross Martin: Filling the void left by Marcus Paige as the UNC point guard won’t be easy, but Joel Berry’s breakout junior year gave fans reason to believe he could step into those shoes. Backing up those expectations, Berry was named to the Bob Cousy Award watch list for the best point guard in the nation.

Associated Press | Aaron Beard: With eight true road wins in a row under their belt, the Tar Heels have proven to be incredibly tough even in hostile environments. Carolina has gone on the road this year to beat Illinois, Florida State, and Miami, and their unbeaten streak on the road is currently the fourth longest in the country.

ESPN | Andrea Adelson: There may be no less loved player on a college football team than the kicker. UNC’s Nick Weiler was very nearly the goat in Tallahassee after his crucial PAT was blocked until he drilled a 54-yarder to give the Heels the win. That made him the hero. NC State’s Kyle Bambard is currently on the other end of that after missing a field goal that would have led the Wolfpack to a win against Clemson on the road. Weiler reached out with words of support because he knows how it feels.

Inside Carolina | Greg Barnes: UNC’s dreams of a Coastal championship looked dead in the water after a loss to Virginia Tech, but their win against Miami and Syracuse knocking off the Hokies has Carolina right back in the mix. The Heels will still need some help, as the Hokies own the tiebreaker over them, but Virginia Tech still has tough match ups ahead such as Miami at home and Pitt on the road. Carolina has gotten through the roughest portion of their schedule and are expected, at least on paper, to win the remainder of their games.
