As part of the National Homeland Security Conference, The Tampa Police Department is partnering with the U.S. Coast Guard, Hillsborough County Sheriff Office, Pasco County Sheriff Office, Citrus County Sheriff Office, Tampa Fire Rescue and Hillsborough Fire Rescue to host a joint air and water rescue demonstration on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from noon to 2:30 p.m.
Members of the agencies’ Special Operations units will gather in the Hillsborough River in front of the Tampa Convention Center to demonstrate a mock rescue operation on a Starship cruise vessel.
This is the first year, all the agencies are spearheading the demonstration, which is part of the National Homeland Security Conference that is taking place at the Tampa Convention Center.
The demonstration will showcase the specialized training and resources that go into ensuring Tampa Bay area law enforcement are prepared for a joint-response to situations that involve the waterways.
The waterways surrounding the Convention Center will be closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. while the demonstration is taking place. Community members in the area can expect to hear some noise and see a law enforcement response during that time as well.
