Yum. Tamara here for just a bit. I invited PinkWhen Jennifer here because she’s an excellent blogging friend, and friend in general, and I also love her recipes and photos. I thought it’s about high time someone who actually cooks posts a recipe on here! Check out her blog because she has a wealth of information about recipes, oils, COOKIES, and other delights.

Hello fellow Tamara Like Camera friends. Are you having withdrawals from not having Tamara around yet? I know how you feel. It is a habit to head over here every day to see exactly what she has been up to. It’s like a televised soap opera, without the major ups and downs….but it’s just as addicting! Don’t you agree? Since she is off making precious memories and drafts for awesome future posts, I am going to try and fill a little of the void with some comfort food. I always like to east when I’m down, so here is a Slow Cooker Chicken and Sausage Gumbo recipe to help fill that missing Tamara void until she returns next week.
Oh and I almost forgot – I’m Jen from PinkWhen, and I am happy to be here with YOU today! I have a little blog over in another corner of the web where I share fun DIY crafts and recipes. I’m so happy to be here sharing one of my favorite Southern recipes with you.
I know you are probably thinking – recipe? Really? Where are all of those fun photos and awesome stories, and music lyric posts that I come to see every day? While I can’t possibly ever write as awesome of a post as Tamara, I CAN share with you a downright delicious Southern recipe that will fill your tummy and have you asking for seconds!
Slow Cooker Chicken and Sausage Gumbo
Here is what you will need for this recipe:
10 cups water
4 chicken breasts (uncooked and cut in cubes)
1 pound andouille sausage cut in bite sized pieces(if you can’t find andouille – use your favorite smoked sausage)
1 chopped red onion
1 chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 (28oz can) garlic and basil flavored diced tomatoes
1 (10oz can) diced tomatoes with green chilis (ROTEL)
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp basil
1 tsp black pepper
Here is the easy part. Turn the slow cooker on LOW and dump all of the ingredients into the slow cooker. Stir to mix well. Place cover on and cook for 8 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve over a hot bed of rice.
This is a super simple and deliciously flavored Southern Style Chicken and Sausage Gumbo recipe. It’s sure to warm your belly during this freezing cold winter.
I hope you enjoy this recipe, and thank you again Tamara for inviting me over!
