Okay...where to start...? I'm eighteen (almost nineteen) and been taking private vocal lessons for three years now. my vocal range spans from F3-F#6. I am a koloraturasoubrette soprano, according to my vocal teacher. However, I've been in love with singing since I was a little girl. I just struggled with shyness. I have learned songs from musical theatre like Think of Me from The Phantom of the Opera, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from The Phantom of the Opera, I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady, Popular from Wicked (not my best), Goodnight My Someone from The Music Man etc. The most difficult Showtune that I've been learning is Mabel's song, Poor Wand'ring One from Gilbert and Sullivan's, The Pirates of Penzance. It has that high E flat, but I love the challenge, and the way the song shows off my light high notes. For the last year or so, I've been learning opera arias and classical songs like Bel Piacere from Handel's, Agrippina, Deh Vieni Non Tardar from Mozart's, Le Nozze Di Figaro, Batti Batti o bel Masetto from Mozart's, Don Giovanni, and Mozart's, Ridente La Calma. If you can't tell, Mozart's my favorite composer. I listen to the Queen of the Night aria, Der Holle Rache, with my eyes closed, and imagine myself being able to sing such a work of beauty. I know I probably never will, my voice is too light, but I do have the range. I want to sing so many arias, like Mein Herr Marquis, Je Veux Vivre, and Ach ich Fuhl. My teacher believes that I'm not ready for German, and I can't disagree with her. I've never taken German, but I've taken Spanish, which is why Italian is easier to sing. I do, however, plan to take German this coming Fall for my Freshman year of college.
