Apple updated its set of drivers for various HP models for users of OS X from 10.6.x to the current 10.8.5. The updates, available through the Software Update mechanism or through a direct update from Apple’s support pages, provides the latest drivers and bring in support for new and existing models for printers, scanners and all-in-one units. The combo updater, available from Apple’s Support Downloads page, is nearly half a gigabyte in size, but most should get the smaller, customized update from Software Update.

The update adds support for the HP LaserJet MFP M725, HP LaserJet Pro MFP M521 Fax, HP LaserJet Professional M1130 MFP Series, HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MFP Series, and HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MPF Series. It also adds the HP Officejet Pro 251dw Printer, HP Officejet Pro 276dw MFP (and Fax variant), the HP Officejet Pro 3610, and the HP Officejet Pro 3620 (and Fax variant), along with the HP Officejet Pro X451-X551 Printer and HP Officejet Pro X476-X576 MFP (and Fax variant).

Along with the new models, almost all of the existing HP drivers have been updated. The updates are presumably rolled into the forthcoming OS X Mavericks (10.9), but are offered for users who wish to keep their HP peripherals up-to-date and don’t plan to or can’t upgrade to Mavericks in the near future.
