Huawei MateBook – the first 48 hours

Stay tuned in July for our full review of this new Windows tablet from Huawei. With an official US launch date of July 11, we’ll have spent a couple weeks with it before then and can let you know if we think it will be worth purchasing. So far, as you’ll see in our first 48 hours with the device, we think Huawei has a slick tablet on their hands, but the jury is still out just how slick, and if it is worthy of competing with the Surface Pro 4 and iPad Pro tablets.

Check out our first impressions and stay tuned for more Huawei MateBook coverage.

Computex and ASUS

We spent a few days in Taipei, Taiwan to see what new gear was introduced at Computex 2016. With many great new laptops and convertibles on offer, there were still a few new tablets announced. We particularly spent time with the new ASUS ZenBook Flip, Transformer 3 Pro, ZenBook 3, all laptop/2-in-1 type devices, and the Transformer 3 and Transformer Mini returning to the familiar ASUS tablet with detachable keyboard design we are used to seeing from ASUS.

At 10-inch and larger, these are not your pocketable tablets to take on the run, but they certainly offer a range of tech that get up to competing with the Surface Pro 4. Check them all out and let us know what you think of these new tablets.

Apple WWDC – iOS 10 and MacOS Sierra

To be completely fair, we held very little coverage of Apple’s developer conference this year. The core of our coverage was in the announcements of iOS 10 and MacOS Sierra. With some nifty new features headed your way for the Macbook and your iPads, join us for a rundown of the initial announcements of the new software and be sure to stay tuned for more coverage to come.

iPad Pro 9.7 vs Nexus 9

Don’t worry, we’re not confused in thinking that these two tablets are direct competitors in the market, but we certainly found it worth considering if the now budget level pricing for the older Nexus tablet makes it a better bang for the buck than the relatively pricey new iPad Pro 9.7. Of course, you could just spend all the moneys and buy both, then you can play with the Android N pre-release now and install the iOS 10 public beta next month.

Google shows off Android apps on Chromebook

If you missed the news last month that Google is bringing Android apps to a Chromebook near you, (well, probably not your Chromebook, you’ll have to buy a new(er) one,) you will be pleased to know that this is happening. While the list of supported devices is currently very short, Android apps on your Chromebook are here now, threatening the business of our multi-tasking friends over at Jide. That aside, Google released a long video, recorded at Google I/O, showing off just how these apps look and work, and I must say, I’m looking forward to upgrading my Chromebook to get in on the fun.
