In true “we-must-appease-leftists-no-matter-the-cost” fashion, TV Land issued a decision to pull the iconic American show, Dukes of Hazzard. Can ya guess why?
Yup. That evil Confederate Flag that graces the top of General Lee, the 1969 Dodge Charger synonymous with the show.
Chain stores like Amazon, Walmart, and eBay have been rapidly removing Confederate merchandise from their inventories (while, interestingly, still selling Nazi paraphernalia, flags, etc.) since the Charleston shooting after a photo surfaced of shooter Dylan Roof holding a Confederate flag.
Is it just me, or are we getting a little too offended here? At Louder with Crowder we’ve made our stance on the whole deal pretty clear. That said, there is such a thing as taking this whole thing a little too far.
Should the flag wave on the South Carolina capitol building? Ehh, probably not. Should you be able to buy a piece of cloth if you want one? Ehh, capitalism and stuff. Should a TV show be canceled because something offensive appears in it? Ehh, no.
By the way, pretty much every show on television offends someone in some way. Maybe we should just get rid of TV altogether?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Dukes of Hazzard stars defended the use of General Lee and the Confederate flag in the show. John Schneider, who portrays “Bo Duke” on the show, had this to say about the series’ use of the flag: “Labeling anyone who has the flag a ‘racist’ seems unfair to those who are clearly ‘never meanin’ no harm,” he said. Co-star Ben Jones, who played “Cooter,” said it represents the “indomitable spirit of independence.”
Schneider then drove the nail in the coffin of political-correctness, telling The Hollywood Reporter:
The Dukes of Hazzard was and is no more a show seated in racism than Breaking Bad was a show seated in reality… Those who seek to malign the show because the famous car it featured had a Confederate flag painted on the roof are missing the point… Are people who grew up watching the show now suddenly racists? Come on, TV Land, can’t we all just watch TV?
Other celebrities are chiming in – somewhat surprisingly – in defense of Dukes of Hazzard, as well. Comedian Tammy Pescatelli posted the following to her Facebook page:

Say goodbye to The General Lee. Today TV Land announced that they’re pulling the Dukes Of Hazzard off the air because of the confederate flag. In a tireless effort to turn our beloved country into a nation of weepy, sandy vaginas they’ve shoved a politically correct boot into the memories of my childhood. The Dukes Of Hazzard was about a lot more than just that shitty paint job on one of the most beautiful muscle cars the good lord ever inspired man to create, it was about tradition. That show started the tradition of the most iconic piece of clothing our nation ever produced; The Daisy Duke shorts. Those shorts were the real flag – a flag of identification and empowerment for gay men and sluts all over the world. Before The Dukes there really wasn’t any one piece of clothing that let the world know that you’re hungry for dick. Congratulations, to the toxic lefties all over this increasingly nerfed world – today victory is yours.
