Give me your tired, your poor … (legally)
The controversy over illegal immigration is not about race or class struggle or economics, so much as it is about borders, boundaries, and sovereignty. Borders define a country physically, and border integrity is critical to sovereignty, especially in an age of terrorism supported by the international drug trade. Human trafficking is a convenient way of getting terrorists inside the country.
What, then, do we make of people who have no regard for border integrity and border security? Do they care little about sovereignty? It would seem so, and here is why.
On the far left, no longer the radical fringe, there exists a huge group that actually thinks it makes sense to cede border states to Mexico. For them, blanket amnesty is not a matter of pragmatism; it is not even an issue of justice. Rather it is a political tool, a way to take control of border states. They are not as interested in citizenship as they are in conquest. Becoming American is anathema. The goal is expanding a Mexican and Latin American sphere of influence, and by any definition, that is aggression, a threat to sovereignty. La Raza and Castro brothers are driving forces behind this aggression.
The federal government has failed for years to enforce federal immigration law, creating our current crises: border violence linked to human and drug trafficking, and the pressure brought by illegal immigrants. Illegals consume public services without paying taxes fully, and legal citizens of all colors are tired of footing the bill.
Illegal activity breeds illegal activity, and a lot of innocent people get caught in the crossfire, citizens and non-citizens alike. Consequently, states have been forced to act, as in Arizona attempting to enforce its own replication of federal law.
Somehow, when it comes to illegal aliens, we are expected to allow them to come here in violation of federal law, turn a blind eye to their illegal status, and fund social services, even as government fails in its duty to enforce the law. To insist law-abiding citizens underwrite lawlessness to their own demise, inviting violence, drug trafficking, and terrorism in the process, is sheer insanity. Worse, certain politicians seek to dominate and manipulate the majority of citizens by playing the race card.
Radical agitators who want to transform the Southwest into an extension of Mexico are not restrained by a concern for national security and sovereignty, nor are they restricted by any respect for common courtesy and decent free speech. They have no boundaries. They have no borders. However, you can bet Mexico has strict immigration laws, and they enforce them aggressively, without apology.
In truth, the forces that would crush the democratic process and the will of the majority in America in order to nullify Arizona law and force amnesty represent the real anti-American enclave. They seek the erasure of borders, they violate all civilized boundaries, and they seek the destruction of sovereignty, the essence of sedition.
