2015-01-01

2015 might be the most anticipated film year in a long, long time, with big movies like Avengers and Star Wars and Furious 7 and Jurassic World coming out. There’s far more than that coming out though, and I’ve picked through the 189 movies that are worth watching out for. They’re either big movies, or are made by big directors or are darlings that are finally getting a release in 2015.

This lists is, for the most part, ordered by the date they’re coming out. We start in January and end in December.

Selma, January 9

This is technically a 2014 movie, but it opens wide in 2015. It’s the story of Martin Luther King Jr leading the march on Selma, Alabama. It’s got a tremendous amount of good reviews and will be a big player at this year’s Oscars.

Inherent Vice, January 9

Another 2014 movie getting a wide release in 2015, this is the new movie from Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights) and stars a great cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin and many, many more. It’s a complicated, hilarious caper.
