August is feeling like a weird month for Netflix. We’re getting some good stuff, including new seasons of popular shows like Once Upon a Time, Real Husbands of Hollywood, Revenge and Doctor Who. We’re also getting a ton of critically acclaimed films, like The Hurt Locker, Two Days, One Night, Pariah and Welcome to Me. Oh, and then we’re getting Netflix’s new cop show Narcos, where two dudes try to take down a drug lord or something.
Unfortunately, we’re losing some classics in August that feel like bigger losses than the gains. There’s no more Titanic, or Face/Off, or The Fifth Element or Jiro Dreams of Sushi or Driving Ms. Daisy or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The one new thing to Netflix you definitely need to check out is White God, a Hungarian film that essentially plays like Rise of the Planet of the Dogs. A young girl gets a dog that she loves, but her dad forces it out onto the street. He goes through a terrible journey that eventually leads to the mutts of Hungary rising up and showing the humans what’s up.
