I cannot even begn to tell you all how excited I am that summer is here.

Okay, maybe I already have once or twice…

But I think we’d all be in agreement with the fact that we had one looooong winter, and I am just loving these warmer temps and some extra sunshine.

Unfortunately, one of the downsides (for me, at least) come allergies. Oh, the allergies! I’ve been blessed with an aversion to what seems like 1,000 different allergens (I can’t even sit in grass without breaking out in a rash), and spring and summer seem to be the worst for me. Especially this past week or two…anyone else??

This year, I’m planning on going in to the allergy season fully prepared though with a few “tricks” up my sleeve to help combat those pesky allergies…

Keep It Clean

It’s always been super important for us to keep on top of cleaning many of the areas in our home that Cody likes to hang out in. Because of my allergies with poor Codeman, we always try to stay on top of vacuuming the carpets and couches, changing the sheets, and washing the bedding, since those are areas that we (and Cody) congregate in most in the house.

And since we’re living with my parents right now, and they have a cat, I’ve been keeping up the same routine. For the most part.

Start up my allergy shots again

Ugh, you guys. I was doing so good at keeping up with my regular allergy injections earlier this year. Most weeks I made it once a week, and some weeks, I even made it twice (you just need to have 48 hours in between).

Right before Christmas (you know, when life tends to get a bit crazy), I wound up missing a couple of weeks. And then, it just completely fell off my radar. I really need to get back into my weekly appointments! Sometimes, it’s just hard to find a good day/time that works with my work schedule, with Lucas, etc. since I need to wait in the waiting room for 30 minutes after the injections each time. Let’s just hope I can make this work again!

Keep up the good eating habits

Plus, as the weather gets nicer, that means more and more fresh produce to have on hand. Win!

Keep regular exercise happening

I’m happy to say that for the past, oh, maybe 5-6 months, I’ve been pretty good about keeping a regular routine going with exercise. Most weeks, I average 3-5 days, anywhere between 30-60 minutes per session. It keeps my energy levels up, and it really just makes me feel better overall. I tend to do a lot of my workouts inside right now anyways, since I’m addicted to workout DVD’s…and, also, don’t have the best track record for my outdoor exercise…

In the event I decide to take a workout outdoors, it’ll likely be early in the morning, before the pollen counts are too high. Otherwise, I’m just keeping it indoors.

Pop the daily multi-vitamins

I already told you guys a few months ago about my new favorite multi-vitamins.

I mean, they’re good to take anyways, but it certainly can’t hurt to keep up the daily usage. If you have a hard time remembering to take a vitamin, make it a part of your daily routine (like when you’re brushing your teeth, having a meal, etc.).

Utilize essential oils

Before moving, I had been playing around a bit more with my Young Living starter kit, and with the help of my friend Marcy, I wasz able to come up with some good oil combinations to help. For example, Marcy gave me the following advice:

· One of the most popular combinations is the “allergy trio” which is lemon, peppermint and lavender. You can put 2-3 drops of each in an empty capsule and take 1-2 x per day…

· You can take an empty bottle, mix the lemon, peppermint and lavender, add Copaiba, top with a roller top, and instantly have a convenient allergy roll on – which you can apply to the throat, or sinus (not to get too close to the eyes because peppermint is potent)…

· You can also diffuse the oils, and some people even do things like take a Q-tip and put a lavender drop on, applying just inside the nostrils for sneezing…

· R.C. (Respiratory & Congestion) is another good oil choice

Keep the medicine cabinet stocked for quick relief

Some days and weeks are always going to be worse than others, so when that happens, we like to make sure we have some things in our arsenal ready to go!
