Hey friends!  I hope you had a great weekend and that you are easing into Monday.  We had an amazing weekend, and feel so lucky that our Swedish Daughter is here for a visit, so the weekend was full of family and friends and just soaking up spending time with her. I plan to share more about our visit with her later on, but today I want to share the first step we have taken in our guest bathroom makeover.  We made over our 1990's era builder grade bathroom vanity!  And it is such a huge improvement to the room already.  Just so you have a frame of reference, here is the before version of the vanity.

The cabinet was not in bad shape at all, I just am not partial to golden oak, so just like I did with the cabinet in my master bathroom, I decided to paint it.  This bathroom is used by two of our children, and it also serves as our guest bathroom, so I want it to be special.  There is also no window in this room, so I wanted to go with a light color to brighten things up.  A few months ago, I shared my plans for this room, and at the time I was torn between a dark blue and a minty green.  As you can see I went with the latter.  I just felt like I wanted to go light in this room because it gets so little natural light.

The color I chose for the vanity is called bluegrass white by Glidden, and I am very happy with my choice!  It really brightens up the room, and it has inspired me to get cracking with the rest of the makeover.  We changed out the knobs for some I found at HomeGoods that are Mercury Glass.  I am very thankful to the folks over at Moen who have partnered with me for this bathroom renovation. They provided me with all new hardware for this bathroom.  You will be seeing some of it today, and some more as we progress with this renovation.  I will be doing a mix of metals in this room, and the hardware I chose is oil rubbed bronze, so I chose these knobs as a way to help provide a bridge between the two metallics.  We tore out the old sink, replaced it with this lovely quartz counter with an under mount sink, and installed a new faucet, and I am thrilled with the upgrade!  This is the Moen Caldwell Mediterranean Bronze bathroom faucet.

We also installed a new toilet paper holder, and it is also a great upgrade.  This new toilet paper holder makes it so much easier to add a new roll of Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft & Strong® with Cleanstretch (9 Mega Rolls), which is my toilet paper of choice.  The toilet paper holder pivots so all you do is turn it up, take the old roll off and slide a new one on.

When it comes to toilet paper, I love the Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft & Strong®, and the mega pack is just perfect for our family of 5 and three bathrooms in this house.  I prefer to keep all three of our bathrooms fully stocked with it, it helps me feel organized and prepared for sudden unexpected guests or last minute get togethers.  Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft & Strong® Mega is a four times bigger roll , so we don't have to be bothered with refilling it constantly.  Just look at those huge rolls!

I wanted to go with an oil rubbed bronze finish with my hardware because I just love the rich look it provides, and I am very happy with my new hardware from Moen!  The reason why I plan to do mixed metals in this room, though, is because the existing shower doors and faucets are chrome.  I have a plan that I think will work with the mixing of the metals, so stay tuned to see how it all turns out!

How to Paint Your Bathroom Cabinet:

Before painting my bathroom cabinet, I removed the drawers and cabinet doors.  Next, I sanded everything enough to rough it up a bit, but I didn't take it down to the natural wood.  I then cleaned it with a deglosser, and it took about three lights coats of paint.  I used a two inch slanted brush to paint it, and I used flat paint.  After the paint was dry, I applied two coats of clear wax, and buffed it with a clear cloth between coats.  This is the same method I used to paint the vanity in our master bath, and it has been two years ago, and it is holding up beautifully, so I repeated the exact same method for painting this one.  Here are a couple of close ups of the finished paint job and the new cabinet knobs. This room is very difficult to photograph due to no natural light and the room being pretty small.  I have no choice but to turn on the over sink light in order to photograph it.

I am very happy with my bathroom sink makeover!  I love the change and the upgrade it brings to our home, and it makes me really excited to finish the rest of this room.  I am hoping I will have the time to take the next step in this makeover in a few weeks, so stay tuned in for that!  But for now, I feel like just changing the vanity is a fantastic start, and it looks and feels brand new!  Adding the new solid surface counter with an under mount sink makes it feel much less builder grade and more luxurious in this room, and by painting the vanity instead of replacing it, we were able to afford to pay a little more for quartz.  It was definitely worth it!  My Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft & Strong® is just the perfect little added touch of luxury attached to the side!  I buy mine at Walmart, along with most of my other household supplies.

I am so happy that I was able to finish this project in time to welcome back our Swedish Daughter last week because she has been using this bathroom during her visit, not to mention I had a house full of guests on Saturday who came to celebrate her return, so those mega rolls sure did come in handy! What do you think of my bathroom vanity makeover?  I just love it!  I love the soft pastel color I chose, and I think the next step will be a crisp white on the walls, what do you think?  Thanks so much for spending a little time in my corner of the blog world today, and have a great week!  School starts tomorrow for us!
