07 April 2014, Lagos - As part of its commitment to provide quality educative solutions to Africa and Nigerians in particular, Intel and HP have collaborated as platinum sponsors at this year’s ARTE (African Resources and Technology for Education) Show 2014 that held in Abuja and Lagos.

The show which is in its third year was declared open by Benue State Commissioner of Education, Dr.Elizabeth Ugo in Abuja. Speaking on ‘How Technology can challenge convention, Encourage Change and Improve Education in Africa’, Lead, Public Sector & Education; HP; Emmanuel Eze, stated that in the 21st century, teaching has gone beyond the classroom, ICT is improving technology and technology is a central part of education and it has enhanced the way of learning.

Eze stating further urged government and teachers alike to buy-in to policies that encourage the use of ICT in classrooms stating that using ICT allows all students to learn at their own pace and acquire needed knowledge, according to facts students who participate actively are able to remember 90% of work learnt because of active participation.

He emphasized that Student-centred learning should be adopted in all classrooms as it shifts focus from the teacher to the students and allows students to be active and responsible participants in their own learning. This student centered learning can be achieved using technology tools such as the Intel Explore and Learn initiative.

Also speaking at the event, Business Development Manager, Intel, Omoboyade Abe, said ‘the Intel Explore and Learn is an education solution that provides access to a vast repository of free and low cost digital text books and interactive learning resources’. At Intel education, the focus is on creating education solutions that aids learning and it is not profit focused. These softwares can be purchased at very reduced and affordable prices.

While urging participants to visit the Intel and HP stand to experience the Intel explore and Learn he added that Intel Teach is an opportunity for Intel to Train teachers who in turn train others.

Participants at the sessions, during the rounds at the exhibition booths attested to the relevance of the contents on the Intel Explore and Learn to education in Nigeria.

The ARTE show is an annual event that aims to bring together manufacturers and suppliers of educational technology and learning resources from all over the globe to forge a new path of growth and development in Africa the world’s fastest growing education sector.
