Every day about one thousand kids age 5 - 14 in the U.S. end up in the emergency room due to bike related injuries. This is more than any other sport, including contact sports like basketball, karate and even football. But why, after so many innovations in biking over the years, have kids remained one of the only demographics left unsafe while trying to enjoy their time being active, having fun and experiencing one of the most quintessential times in their childhood?

Though, maybe it isn't the "why" that's important after all, rather the "how" that's behind resolving this problem for such a highly influenced and moldable market.

The goal and reason for starting Guardian bikes is to help prevent these unsafe situations from happening to begin with, ultimately creating a biking experience that's the best it can be for children. Just like helmets were invented to prevent head injuries while riding bikes, Guardian was invented to prevent accidents from happening by starting at the root, with the bike itself.

Guardian bikes is the only brand on the market today that is truly focused on creating the safest kids bikes, ones that are not only easy to ride and of the highest quality, but also equipped with the most attractive designs (created by kids, for kids!).

The safety features include patented SureStop braking technology (shown above) which completely prevents front wheel lockup and head-over-handlebar accidents due to common braking mistakes, a lower center of gravity due to the frame design which allows the child to balance better, as well as an overall lighter weight which makes each ride smoother and more manageable for the child who's learning to ride.

At a 20 inch wheel base, Guardian bikes are ideal for kids ages 6 - 9 who are typically graduating from training wheels to a "big kid" bike, and are also being introduced to hand lever brakes for the first time. Typical brakes require the young learner to exhaust his or her cognitive and motor skills by trying to actuate the front and rear brake using two different levers, all while trying to shift gears, balance him or herself, and gain enough speed to maneuver the bikes which weigh about the same as he or she might weigh.

Guardian bikes are designed to give the child the ability to feel safe, and therefore more confident, while riding. This allows him/her to focus these motor and cognitive skills on the important things while riding, like avoiding obstacles and being aware of surroundings.

With the steps we have taken to create Guardian, and with our mission to reduce the number of children who end up in the ER due to bicycle accidents at the forefront of what we do, we hope to have children all around the world riding free, riding bold, and, most importantly, riding safe.
