HOUSE prices in Surrey Heath could plummet if a new housing development in Deepcut brings gridlock to the borough, as feared by a long-standing residents group.

The Deepcut Liaison Group (DLG) says the 1,200 new homes proposed for the Princess Royal Barracks site will generate upwards of 15,000 new weekly car movements if the developers don’t pledge to further improve the existing road network.

It is calling on members of the Deepcut community to raise any concerns they have ahead of a decision by councillors on July 17.

David Rushmer, Deepcut resident and DLG member, said it was vital people made their voices heard while there was still time.

“Deepcut and the surrounding area like Frimley, Frimley Green, Mytchett, Heatherside, Lightwater, Windlesham and Bagshot as well as M3 access, will be gridlocked,” he said.

“Who wants to buy a house in the middle of a noisy, polluted car park? It’s bound to impact on house prices throughout the area.”
