Functionality, graphic elements and clean lines are a big thing in many designers’ collections, but probably at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, they'd never been more enjoyable than the designs of Berlin fashion label PHILOMENA ZANETTI.

The spring/summer 2017 collection was inspired by the constructivism of Soviet architecture and showed elegant culottes, feminine suits, casual sports shorts, waist wrapped jackets and dresses and blouses with thrilling cuts.  Matching the collection theme, the social changes in Russian culture of the 20s, the collection pieces were reduced to their essentials and patterned in clear lines and straight cuts.

Details like button taped on the back of blouses and oversized patch bags on the dresses formed an exciting contrast to the straightforward apect of the collection.

The bright colour scheme, including a lot of white, soft pink and pastels, coupled with dark elements promised an optimistic and confident look into the future of fashion, as well as a critical examination of the past.

The use of unusual, static materials such as cork and paper, as well as flowing materials from organic silk and Tencel was very exciting and turned the collection into something very wonderful and opened a new perspective for the clothing of our time.
