The British label PPQ presented their "Purple Reign" Autumn/Winter 2016 collection at St Andrew's Holborn church during London Fashion Week.PPQ was established by Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker in 1992, who, until today, make zeitgeist design moves. They spearheaded the drainpipe jean revolution, especially by dressing musicians and bands. (1-2-3-4 Records is a record label PPQ runs as well, launching acts including Whitey, The Bishops, The White Sport, Trafalgar, Objects and Cosmetique). The label’s signature smock dresses and modern mini cocktail gowns soon became fashion-insider staples. Now, PPQ is strong in shapes and bold prints, using elaborate fabrics in a spectrum of vivid colours. Famous fans include Kirsten Dunst, Sienna Miller, Rihanna, Lily Allen, Naomie Harris, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Daisy Lowe, Alexa Chung and Pixie Lott.At this year's show, PPQ's design principle was put together in a short story: "She strolls the streets with a heart full of Napalm. A rebel with a leopard print cause, so cool in ice cream pastels. Her mohair heart draws then in as she burns them with Satin stare. She's a street walking cheetah and tonight she will reign in purple."It was a sexy, glamourous, yet cool and rocking collection that, with the model's sixties hairstyles, seemed like revamped old chic. Black for cool, pastel colours for glam – PPQ brought it together perfectly by therein giving the whole collection dynamic. Even the all-black looks with for example a short patent skirt, over-knee boots and a black fur gilet, accessorized with coral pink bracelets and a leopard print handbag, were interesting. Ruffles were big, especially in the maxi dress in a light peach, yellow, violet and baby blue. PPQ risqué combinations of super short pants, skirts, dresses and high stilettos and bold jewelry worked well, not only because of the outerwear, which was setting a nice contrast to the looks themselves. Tailored leather jackets, mohair coats in different pastel hues or a sunshine yellow coat with a fur trim.[nggallery id=580]All in all, PPQ proved once again that by bringing music and fashion together, something very unique could be created.
