A YOUNG Carlton squad without its captain and senior coach will head across the country to take on an almost full strength West Coast outfit on Friday night in Mandurah.

With Marc Murphy nursing calf tightness he sustained in last Friday's intra-club and Mick Malthouse to stay in Melbourne with his wife Nanette facing investigative surgery on Friday, the Blues are sending a new-look outfit.

Sam Rowe will captain the team, which could feature up to three of the Blues' four 2014 draftees plus three first-year rookies, while director of coaching Rob Wiley will coach.

Andrew Walker (knee) and Matthew Kreuzer (foot) will miss while the likes of Bryce Gibbs, Lachie Henderson, Chris Judd, Dale Thomas and Michael Jamison have been rested.

All but Walker, Kreuzer and Gibbs featured in last week's intra-club at Ikon Park.

Draftees Blaine Boekhorst, Dillon Viojo-Rainbow and Clem Smith have been named in the 29-man squad along with other new Blues Jason Tutt, Kristian Jaksch, Matthew Dick and Liam Jones.

Troy Menzel has also been named after corking his right quad in the intra-club while Matthew Watson will look to capitalise on the six goals he kicked in the same game.

The squad will be trimmed to 26 just before Friday afternoon's game.

Meanwhile, the Eagles' squad features the majority of their A-grade stars with Scott Selwood and Nic Naitanui the notable omissions.

Both players also missed the Eagles' hit-out against the Indigenous All Stars on Friday night in Perth, with Selwood still coming back from December ankle surgery.

Draftee Tom Lamb, who was taken with the Eagles' second pick in last year's NAB AFL Draft, has been named, along with their third pick Jackson Nelson.

Former Blue Kane Lucas, who became an Eagles' rookie after being delisted at the end of last season, has been named to line up against his ex club.

Pacy small forward/midfielder Malcolm Karpany, who was drafted in 2013, has been named for his first game.
