Sun Rocking like never before!
We’re very excited to welcome more new Sun Rockers to Sun Park Living, it is our first summer as the first ever exclusive hotel for the over 50s, and we are planning to Rock and Roll like never before, so cheers to a fresh new season, new adventures and wonderful friendships!.
As we bid farewell to most winter Sun Rockers, we move forward and onwards whilst we continue building the wonderful and vibrant community Sun Park Living is destined to become, making it as welcoming, inclusive and friendlier as we possibly can.
A brand new group of exciting Sun Rockers and wonderful community builders have arrived, and they are determined to rock this boat, for the better, of course, they are settling in well and already making life and love happen everywhere around them, we are all looking forward to spending a great summer here, and add some value to those already in-house and anyone following on our footsteps. Nurturing friendships, sharing the love with everyone
This month we are welcoming back a few Sun Rockers, directly from Liverpool and The Isle of Man, who could not wait till October to be back, and so only after a month of their departure they ‘found themselves’ booking another stay at Sun Park Living, welcome back you guys!
Some of us, single by choice (although mostly not our choice), have found at Sun Park Living some of the human touch lacking in our lives, by getting to know new people like ourselves, in similar circumstances, just looking to relax, and perhaps just sharing the odd ‘hello’ and ‘good-bye’, instead, we found ourselves sharing our time with everyone in the resort, building friendships with new found friends and neighbours, getting involved in the daily activities of running/unkeeping the community, and making our time in Playa Blanca become a memorable one. Some of us were choking at the thought of having to say goodbye to everyone here, it is the first time for many of us, who, accustomed to travel the world, find ourselves living within an environment like Sun Park Living, where, from the moment you wake up, you are surrounded by nice lovely people who offer you their company and friendship, without asking for anything in return, an absolute discovery for some of us.

Many of you have shown your talented minds by creating arty crafty samples from the heart, some of them have been even left behind, so we thank those Sun Rockers for their generosity and we invite more to join us in sharing the love and showing the power of what heart, body and mind can do when put to such an amazing use, like this one, who would have thought to use a car as a giant flower pot. Community shop
Slowly but surely our shop it’s getting better and better, specially now that our wonderful Sarah has revamped it M&S style, it does not yet quite look like this picture above but definitely it’s on its way, the co-operative started like this we hear, in a little room and see where they are now. Well done to all sharing the experience. The shop is open daily from 10.30-11.30am.

Organic fruit and veg delivered to us
When was the last time you perceived the real smell of a tomato? I did, last week, thanks to Jessica! She contacted a local organic farmer (www.ecotrespeñas.com) and they delivered 10kg of fresh fruit and veg for only 21€. We were so impressed that we are making it available to everyone at the community shop.

Team on fire!
Yes we are! we are all on fire at the prospects of the amazing adventures awaiting us all this summer, lots to do, people to meet, places to visit, food & juice to enjoy on the many different trips on this wonderful island… One of the great places we will be visiting is The National Park of Timanfaya and learn about the history and knock on effects of the spectacular ashes covering most of the island. Did you know that the ashes help retaining the moisture in the soil and is instrumental in cultivation in the island? So join us, every Sunday at 9.30am at reception if you are interested in any trips.

The Pirates museum in Teguise
Who would have thought that Teguise is actually the name of a Princess and that had the Viscount Horacio Nelson not lost his arm fighting the Spaniards in Tenerife the Canary Islands would have been British today… imagine these islands without all the “S” (sangria, serrano ham and sapat – that’s tapas backwards)… and so our love affair with the islands continues. This month visiting Teguise to fully discover it’s true history.

El Golfo
A tiny seaside village famous for the Charco de Los Clicos, an amazing volcano on the shoreline that has been eroded by the elements to reveal an incredible emerald green lagoon, or Lago Verde as they call it here. The intense green colour is due to the concentration of Ruppia-Maritima algae present in the water. You´ll find that the actual lagoon is roped off, as it´s one of the protected areas of Lanzarote, but it is unmissable! so please do join us in our little trip. Plus the best fish to be had is there, and without a meal after some pics in the lagoon, the trip is not complete.

As you know, the main purpose of the U3A is to encourage lifelong learning, friendship and camaraderie amongst Sun Rockers like yourselves, by providing educational, recreational and leisure activities for everyone alike. As you can see in this newsletter there is quite a bit going on this month, so please do join us at any stage, whether you are a resident Sun Rocker or a visitor, please pop by and say hi. Community update
Sun Park Living is about community hearted and minded people enjoying together a wonderful “me” time. It is about welcoming people with open arms, invest our love and time in getting to know and love everyone and support each other during our experience on the island. Some of us come just for a few weeks, others for longer and many already are thinking about making this resort their second base. We all add value to the community and contribute with our knowledge, common efforts and smiles, and we all appreciate each others efforts and input; it’s an amazing and wonderful view to see us all cooperating for the greater good of us all, I’ve experienced it myself and value it very much indeed. It makes the resort feel like a home away from home, shared with a big family, and I, for one, wouldn’t change it for the world.
Originally, a few community members got together and set up a committee, and with that they took ownership of running the coffee mornings, shop, activities and events; we thank them all for their time, support, efforts and legacy, and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours, they did a valuable job, and for that we are truly grateful.
Now, the time is right to move forward, and we are handing over the community back to all the resident Sun Rockers, to all the positive, loving & hugging people, problem solvers, community builders and above all respectful and considerate Sun Rockers who enjoy helping and supporting everyone whilst having a great time. We have already seen how positively this has been received by everyone, with some great initiatives coming from the members in the past few weeks. You can read about just some of them in this newsletter. We are truly blessed to have great respectful Sun Rockers giving their best to everyone, they are amazing at talking to each other and have already elevated the Sun Park Living experience to a whole new level of true camaraderie, honest giving, sharing and trust. Long live you all!

Morning Walks
Who doesn´t love waking up to the song of the lovely birds residing in the many trees at Sun Park Living? And who doesn´t feel like going for a lovely walk right after having a morning tea, just to stretch legs and warm up the soul whilst getting ready for another wonderful day? Bob is one of them and he´s leading the morning walks, so if you are up for it, please come to reception and meet everyone, trainers are a must and Monday 8am start too, to avoid the sun.

Time Management
Have you ever felt like there isn’t enough time to get all you want done in one day? We all know a few tricks on how to overcome the problems that this may cause to us, however we could all benefit from some professional guidance to achieve all we need with easy, so if you’d like to add some quality time value to your life please come along on Mondays at 11am.
Painting & Drawing
Some of us love painting, and Sun Park Living, as much as the whole of Playa Blanca and Lanzarote, are full of wonderful views worth painting and framing; we are getting our canvases ready on Mondays at 6pm. We are proposing a combination of sightseeing/painting trips and onsite days, to paint and learn from each other. We’ve been offered some space in the resort to meet up and paint away over a glass of the local wine, perhaps some cheese or tapas and the sound of wonderful classical music. There’s the possibility to have a teacher coming from Tenerife to show us how to do it right, so we are all really looking forward to that. See you on Monday! Contribution is 1€ each, which will go towards the community funds.

Aqua Aerobics
A group of us put on our best gear, got some empty bottles of pop, and jumped into the pool to share a lovely exercise routine. We´ve punched into the water, and moved our skeleton like we haven´t done in a while. The gents watched from the side and lovely Valerie and Jessica gave us all their blessings from their balcony and terrace, as we continued to punch away into the water. Next, we will join the synchronized swimming team in Playa Blanca, and if there´s none, we´ll definitely take the chance at being the first 50+ team ever in the island. One of us stayed behind, being called a mermaid and snapper towards the end. See you next Tuesday at 5pm.

Shamanic Healing
Bringing love, peace and healing to us all in a one-off session by Jessica, on Tuesdays at 7pm. All going well we shall repeat the experience on an ongoing basis, same time, same day, every week.

Health Workshop
We all worry about our indulgent habits and want to improve on our fitness and endurance. It is very important to us all to be able to remain fit and active for as long as we possibly can, and sometimes, believe it or not, it´s just a matter of tiny changes here and there that will make the trick and help us be a little bit better towards ourselves. Steve is a world renowned expert in this area and is meeting us on Wednesdays at 6pm to talk about our health and how to improve on our habits, in a simple way that will work for us.

Yoga
Our lovely Gill comes every Thursday at 11am to help us twist and stretch out bodies like we never thought we could, whilst teaching us good breathing and posture techniques, so come and join us to improve your posture and feel more healthy. Contribution is 3€, which goes towards the yoga instructor and the community.

Aprendiendo juntos
(Learning together)
It’s been agreed, it´s what we all want most, majority votes go to the Spanish lessons by “Laura Craft” (aka our lovely Trish). Lessons are on Thursdays at 6pm, so please do ensure you come right awake and ready to rumble, as we’ve heard she uses soft balls to keep Sun Rockers awake. So far, she has made Sun Rockers dance, sing, and romance each other for Valentines, can’t wait to see what she’ll be doing next. Classes take around 1.5hrs and contribution is 1€ per person, which goes towards the community funds.

Social Fridays
Come and join us every Friday between 10.30am and 2.00pm to meet new people and socialise over a cup of tea/coffee. Meet the Sun Rockers and find out about our weekly activities, everyone is welcome.

If you feel a bit lost and want to find out how to get the best of your laptop, ipads, iphones and the likes, please join us on Fridays at 6pm to figure it all out and learn some tips to impress everyone.

Community meals
Now every Friday at 7pm, courtesy of Henry and Peter, we will be organising a BBQ for all Sun Rockers. Simply bring along your BBQable meal and salads to the BBQ area by 5pm, and join in the fun by helping everyone set up the place and even go for a dip in the pool before sitting down at 7pm to enjoy a lovely meal with everyone. How does it work? We cook it all and we share it all, just for 1€ per person for the charcoal and 1€ for sangria.
