As adults, we know that setting up a routine in the morning can set the tone for the rest of the day. Or at least we should. That’s why we are adults, right? Kids, however, can be a different story. Give them their druthers and they would crawl out of bed five minutes before they absolutely have to be out the door for school. Their socks probably won’t match and they’ll consider the half-eaten rice crispy treat they pulled from between the couch cushions while they were looking for their other shoe and/or action figure to be a perfectly balanced breakfast. It’s important to help them get into a healthy routine every morning. Not only will it help set the tone for the rest of their day but the rest of their lives. Here are some tips to teach your kid to help them develop good morning routines:

Always wear clean underwear: Most parents can tell you that the struggle is real. You want to let your kids be independent but sometimes they can’t be trusted when it comes to dressing themselves in the morning. This is especially true when it comes to putting on clean underwear. For whatever reason, they don’t seem to understand why they can’t wear their favorite pair of Spider-Man Underoos for three straight days. Always wear clean underwear. Always.

Brush your teeth: For some reason, kids always seem to remember that they forgot to brush their teeth until you are five minutes late to getting them out the door. Establishing a good habit of brushing their teeth as soon as they wake up to go to the bathroom every morning will help keep this from happening. Good dental health plays a role in many other aspects of overall health so getting them started on a good routine early will help save them from wearing dentures at age 30.

Start with a good meal: This is easier said than done. It is stressful and busy in the morning so trying to feed your children a healthy breakfast can be quite the chore. Fruits, especially those can be pre-cut so that they are easy to serve, are a great habit to start off the morning when cooking eggs or other items isn’t a possibility.

At the very least, start them off with a big glass of fruit juice.

Promote good digestive health: If you aren’t always able to provide your kids with a well-balanced breakfast, you may want to consider a probiotic regimen that will help keep their digestive system on track. Probiotics are good bacteria that provide a health benefit and are essential for many vital body functions, including healthy digestion. Align Jr., the #1 Doctor and Gastroenterologist-recommended probiotic brand, now comes in great-tasting chewables for kids age 6-12 years old.

Sometimes busy mornings can disrupt your child’s natural balance of good bacteria. I know that we have considered several approaches to help our son fortify healthy digestive systems, but this is a good choice to provide a daily probiotic supplement like Align Jr. which can help support your child’s digestive health.*
