Langkawi – Malaysian Island Paradise

Any Malaysian holiday wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beautiful island of Langkawi!

This is one of the best places I’ve travelled to because for some reason this little island isn’t totally ram-packed with tourists like most of the Thai islands. On Langkawi, more often than not, you’ll be able to relax on some breath taking beaches all by yourself!

When I travelled there in 2009 the below were my top 3 things I did!

On and before I forget – the BEST and ONLY way to see this island in all its glory is to hire a moped – which you can pretty much do from any hotel or hostel you end up staying in.

The best site to find a nice cheap hostel is though Wiki Travels. Or alternatively you can just wait until you arrive to find somewhere to rest your head!

1. Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls aka Seven Wells

Although the walk up is challenging the reward is worth all the sweat and tears. After you’ve climbed the 300+ steps you are rewarded by natural pools at the top of the waterfall! You have 7 that you can choose from to chill out until your heart’s content. The legend has it that fairies used to come down to the pools to bathe and frolic!

2. Cable Car Ride & Hanging Bridge

You can get to the cable car via the Oriental village which is close to Pantai Kok. This was the second best thing that we did and the views from the 700m high Sky Bridge were absolutely breathtaking – and if you can believe it, you can even see Thailand on a clear day! If you’re feeling adventurous and you want to hike instead of getting the cable car you can do this from the parking lot at Telagah Tujuh Waterfalls. All you have to do is turn left just before the road goes uphill and then turn left again at the water reservoir.

3. Tanjung Rhu Beach

This was the best beach by far! There was so much to do and see. And the best thing about it… was that nobody was there! We literally had the entire beach all to ourselves! Because the area is made up of limestone caves, mangroves and waterways it’s literally a nature lover’s paradise!

4. And because you’ll have a moped…

Some of my best memories of Langkawi were when we woke up at the crack of dawn, jumped on the moped and just drove around the island! I don’t have a clue what some of these places are called or exactly where they are but here ‘s a collection of photos that we took from the road!
