Lately, I’ve been adding more and more statement necklaces to my jewelry collection. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a few dainty chains layered on my neck, but the statement necklace is an effortless way to glam up and go, which makes it essential for those weekdays where I want to look good, but really want to sleep in… and let’s face it, that’s 4 out of 5 days a week.
So, when I was selected to work with Majestical Jewelry, I was excited to hear they were going to choose a piece of jewelry to send me based on my style. “What a different way to do things,” I thought as I browsed the site and hoped they’d send me one of their numerous and fantastic statement pieces. And that’s exactly what they did! I was sent the lovely cobalt Honey Comb Set, which includes a beautiful gemstone necklace and coordinating earrings. The earrings aren’t really my taste, but that’s ok, because the necklace is just stunning!
What makes the necklace so unique is that instead of the gems being backed with silver, or simply clear, the pieces holding them in place have a honeycomb pattern that shows through the transparent gem. So while you have an eye-catching color in the cobalt gems, what really draws someone’s attention is the different backing of the gems. In fact, when I wore my Honey Comb necklace, I got complements on it all day, with the majority of them being the first thing out of someone’s mouth. Even my boss noticed it and said how nice of a necklace it was!
Making a Statement Necklace Work
I’ve talked about layering necklaces before, and while I thought about doing a crash course on layering statement necklaces, I figured instead it would be fun to show you just how easy a statement necklace can take an ordinary outfit to a whole new level. I put together three looks that stand up on their own, but really make a statement when you add the Majestical Jewelry Honey Comb necklace. The first is a casual spring look, followed by a weekday workwear outfit, and finally a look that’s fit for a night out on the town.
Casual Charm
I started out this look with a favorite pair of patched and distressed skinnies, which I cuffed, and a pair of trusty railroad-stripe Chucks. Then I added a loose “cold shoulder” top and my vintage leather crossbody bag. I added a pair of sunglasses, simple gold hoop earrings, and my bright blue Honey Comb necklace, which played perfectly off of the shades of muted blue throughout the rest of the outfit. A perfect look for spring-time errands!
Make this look your own by wearing your favorite distressed jeans with a simple top–it can be a graphic top like the one above, or just a solid. Rock your favorite sneakers or flats, a cross-body bag, and sunglasses with your statement necklace to keep things simple and chic, while still having the freedom to run around and get stuff done.
Workday Not-So-Basics
This look was a fun one to put together, largely because I’m so tired of wearing pants at the office. I opted for a basic black pencil skirt and a black and white striped top as my base for this look, topping it with a black, silver, and green striped jacket, and finishing it off with black and gold cap-toe flats. The gold in the shoes plays nicely on the gold in the Honey Comb necklace, while the necklace itself is free to stand out against the deeper v-neck top. For earrings I kept it simple and just went with gold studs–after all, it’s work and the pattern-mixing and statement necklace are enough without adding big huge earrings.
This look is easy to make your own, with a different blazer and top combination. You don’t have to mix patterns, and you can allow your statement necklace to really be your only statement piece here. Or you can mix patterns and allow the statement necklace to really add to it. It all depends on how you feel about being bold at work.
Spring Party Chic
Of all three looks, this easy, chic party look is my favorite! I started with a black, sleeveless tunic that has a little bit of color on the shoulders, and added sheer grey tights and flat leather and suede boots. I topped it with a cream chunky-knit cardigan and added a burgundy vintage clutch. Of course, my Honey Comb necklace was a must for more color in this look, but I also added a pair of larger crystal earrings and a small arm party (featuring my rose gold Michael Kors watch, and two bracelets from Stella & Dot, the Christina Link in gold and the Renegade in silver–a little mixed-metal magic goin’ on here). This is the perfect look for an afternoon out with the ladies, since the boots are flat and won’t hinder walking too much (or walking on soft ground), but it will also transition to date nice nicely. It’s a fun, playful look that is great for almost any springtime occasion!
This is a really easy look to make your own, as you can essentially use this as inspiration for dressing down (and getting more mileage out of) your favorite little black dress! It would work great with heeled boots or flats too, and you could swap the chunky cardigan out for a more streamlined look, or even a jean jacket. The focus here, though, is making the statement necklace with with what you have, and be a part of your fun, chic look.
