On July 15th 2013, a total of 775 people from across the Manassas area gathered at the Weems Elementary School to hold the largest game of Red Light – Green Light ever. A Guinness World Book of Records official was on hand to make the world record official.
This was an effort designed by the Manassas Neighbourhood Services, and supported by many local businesses, including Manassas plumbers HMS Plumbing. This game was part of the city’s Big Day of Serving 2013, which aims to encourage community spirit. This is a way to encourage healthy habits and outdoor activities for children in the community, and Red Light – Green Light is a simple fun way to get families involved in the community and healthy activities.
With volunteers and participators from the local Boys and Girls Club, hundreds of children from Manassas and the surrounding area were able to participate in this fun and historical event. People of all ages were allowed to participate after signing up online.
Manassas plumbers, HMS Plumbing, thought this was an excellent way to support the local community and have some fun. “How many people get to say they hold a world record? This was a great way for families to get outside and make a positive impact” says a rep for the local Manassas plumbers.
The Big Day of Serving also gave children and adult volunteers the opportunity to beautify their town by mulching, landscaping, picking up trash, cleaning ponds and streams, removing graffiti and painting basketball courts. The end of the day was the highlight however. The children and adults had a great time at the block party complete with food, live entertainment, and of course great company.
