It’s a whopper this weekend! Partly because I’m home alone convalescing (well, actually my Mum’s here doing an amazing job of looking after me and my fractured foot, but the boys are away) and partly because this is a Mother’s Day edition. Inspo for what to get the lady who looks after you best, come next month (Sunday 6th, don’t forget!)…

So where to start? A big part of this glorious mash-up of well-being, health and beauty is down to a totally indulgent Mother’s Day edit from Selfridges. They’ve hit the nail right on the head, with a fantastic selection of goodies, including rose-scented Diptyque candle, roller ball scent & travel pouch, Aerin perfume and a Suqqu massage and mask cream. Plus face, eye and hand creams from Clarins, Charlotte Tilbury and Estée Lauder which always go down a treat with the females in my family. Mix and match the Selfridges Mother’s Day edit according to taste and budget.

TWO ‘THEY REALLY WORK’ PRODUCTS

Two more beauty products I’m dying to tell you about are Dr Hauschka’s Night Serum and REN’s Instant Brightening Beauty Shot Eye Lift.

The REN Beauty Shot Eye Lift has had the most incredible review by Sali Hughes, so I was very tempted to try. The idea is you apply (not rub, so a soft pat I’m guessing) under your eyes until absorbed. In Sali’s words: “It’s a cocktail of hyaluronic acid, glycerine, silicon, oils and light-reflecting particles that, when patted around the eyes after skincare, tightens and firms sagginess, while brightening dark circles.” Basically not made with the usual dubious substances that tighten and brighten. Well, it works almost instantly. Bit of soft tingling and a less than a minute later, undereye area was looking much improved. This is something that interests me, as puffy undereyes and darkness in the morning is something I suffer from. I think it wears off after a while. So it’s the kind of thing to re-apply when needed; you can pop it on over make-up. So for the times when you really want to look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, here it is!

Dr Hauschka’s Night Serum is meant to be the only thing you put on after cleansing at night, giving the cells a chance to properly refresh and renew. Bit of a change-up for someone who layers on a mix of oils, blams, heavy creams, whatever I can get my hands on to hydrate me through the dark hours. The serum is as most serums are, liquidy and fairly thin, so I wasn’t sure it’d manage to deal with the dry skin that usually appears around my chin overnight. But guess what? The next morning my skin looked fresh and hydrated with no dry patches to speak of. And the next night too. So, my many other night creams and oils are now sitting a bit forlorn on my beauty self, sorry guys…

Pranamat – this really works too!

More raving to come, so hold tight. Next up is something that my Mum and I are currently trading turns with while we have our mid-morning cuppa and banana bread muffin (obsessed with making the Hemsley Hemsley sugar-free gluten-free ones) – the amazing Pranamat. In fact, like above, this was something I wasn’t sure whether it would live it up to its reputation but am now totally converted. A massage mat covered it tough little spikes that stimulates pressure points. Good for headaches, aching muscles and general well-being. The first time I used it I was well on my way into a migraine. Having taken two pills a little too late I was in a bit of panic (for pills to work on migraines you generally need to catch them early). So I gingerly lay down on the mat on my back, head raised on a pillow, wearing a t-shirt and waited. Twenty minutes in, my back was tingling in the most lovely way, like the after-effects of a massage and amazingly, my headache was receding. A bit more, and it had gone. I was genuinely gob-smacked at getting out of a migraine is never this easy. I’ve since used it for my feet during the day and my back just before going to sleep at night. It. Is. Addictive. Hence the on-rotate system I now have going with my Mum.

NO NEED TO SLEEP

Also, nothing beats make-up shelf icons like YSL’s Touche Éclat – I always have one of these on the go; a dab under eyes, side of nose, in chin crevice and between eyebrows unfailingly improves matters – which is revamped for 2016 with a limited edition Slogan range – this one’s is No Need To Sleep (there are two others) and some luxe lippy. 12 new shades for the Volupte rangé, this 44 Nude Lavallière shade is just the kind of muted berry that my mum likes to wear. Love the baroque packaging on this… Both available exclusively from Selfridges from 1st March.

Chill Zone

Moving further into world of well-being and feeling at peace, Urban Outfitters has just launched some really fun products. Organic but with a spiritual twist, this Crystal Cactus aura spray has proved a big hit with my Mum; for dispelling negative energy and creating a relaxed vibe. And the bath mix of dried herbs comes with a gentle direction to send your good intentions out into the universe. The Little Moons spray in the blue bottle is for reenergising with a mix of essential oils. Get it on and peace out.

Plant Club

So into the world of stationary, plants and jewellery. A lovely idea recently launched my fave London-based succulent and plant business, Geo-Fleur, is a monthly plant club. You sign up to a subscription and every month something fresh, happy and green arrives with you. I think this is an absolutely lovely idea for a present at any time of year and one most mums will love!

Write It Down

The journal and note block is by recently-arrived-in-the-UK Swedish brand Kikki K, with a lovely shop just opened in Covent Garden. The 365 journal has blank numbered pages inside and I love the gold on the cube notepad…

SHINY BITS & BOBS

Jewellery can be quite a hard one to buy for anyone. But I think these Astley Clarke pins are a brilliant idea, as they can used on scarves, lapels, jumpers, anything really. They add a bit of fun and sparkle to anything. Oh, and how cute are the alphabet pins?

Another lovely collection is the new North Star (all in rose gold) range from Lucy Williams X Missoma with 20% of each sale going to the Wellbeing of Women Charity, dedicated to improving the health of women and babies. These pieces are the studs and beaded ring, but there’s quite a few designs to choose from.
