In need of a cuddle and a cappuccino? Step inside London’s first ever cat cafe – Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium.
After months of waiting, grooming, snoozing and sharpening our claws, we finally slinked our way into Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium! The crowd-funded venture which pounced into our lives back in January last year with their quest to launch London’s first ever cat cafe, finally opened its doors this month.
Situated on Bethnal Green Road in Shoreditch, Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium offers an oasis of calm and cuddles to the feline-loving folk of London, and with a waiting list as long as an outstretched paw, we were lucky enough pop in for a visit ourselves.
After paying our £5.00 entry fee and ordering some tea and cakes from the cafe, we were invited inside. Totally at ease, the eleven resident cats play, perch, snuggle and snooze around the cafe. Numbers of people at any one time are limited and pre-booking is essential, so the cats are never over-crowded.
While the first cat cafes emerged as a result of pet-deprived urbanites in Asia, Lady Dinah’s is a very English affair. Cats hop between the twee mis-matched furniture and snoop on tables as customers tuck into delicious tea and cakes in from vintage cups and saucers.
Split over two levels – the ground floor, where curious cats pose and preen themselves in the front window (must to the delight of passers by), and the downstairs, filled with comfy sofas and armchairs, the cafe has been perfectly designed for both people and pussies.
Plenty of high-up places allow cats to perch above all the action, and cosy nooks and hidey holes are dotted all over for cats that want some ‘me-ow’ time. Scattered with toys, scratchers and even a giant cat exercise wheel, the cafe’s four-legged residents can get plenty of playtime in too.
Our verdict? FELINE-TASTIC!
