Anyone else putting off the dreaded task of pulling winter jackets out of storage?

No? That’s just me in the three henleys, one puffer vest and a peacoat? ….Okay, just checking.

If, like me, you want to stretch your closet’s current contents farther into fall and winter, the best place to start is your dress shirts. Depending on the fabric, the transitional piece is nearly season-less. Pair yours with shorts and flip flops in the warmer months, then add layers as the temperature drops. Even a linen number like the one below, when worn under a sweater, can work as the cooler months wear on.

The Transition Piece

Shirt: Hartford

Warm Weather

Shorts: Gap

Hat: Dickies

Flip-flops: Kohl’s

Cold Weather

Pants: Grown & Sewn

Sweater: Club Monaco

Shoes: Johnston & Murphy

Tell me:

What pieces stay in your closet all year round?

And for those in warmer climates, is there anything you put away (even though you don’t need to) just so you don’t get sick of it??
