Somehow, fall always shows up before we even realize it – one minute we’re worried about not sweating our makeup off, and the next, we’re picking out the best berry bold lip and sweater layers. While the fall shows debuted months ago and we recapped them then, it’s due time for a good refresher so we all know what to start rocking on our faces ASAP. From clumpy lashes to tousled, ’70s strands, we’re ready to embrace fall beauty – and here’s your full forecast so you will be too.

The Modern Shag

The ’70s are making a comeback, with textured mid-length shaggy hairstyles that thankfully seem made for air-drying. If you’ve got naturally wavy hair or straight hair that’s on the finer side, a style like this will give you lots of dimension and movement, not to mention some serious rock and roll glamour.  Seen at Alexandre Vauthier and Rodarte (respectively), a mid-length works best with this particular style’s vibe but that isn’t to say you can’t go a bit shorter or longer.

Clumpy Lashes

Speaking of rock and roll, the clumpy lash look, seen here at Fendi (left) Nanette Lepore (right), is heralding in a trend of big bold textural lashes. Maybelline already jumped on this bandwagon with their Chaotic Lash mascara, but we’re mostly glad that this means we can unapologetically layer on mascara in the name of fashion and not worry about clearing every single clump that comes with it.

Graphic Eyes
The cat-eye will never die, it’s just getting a bit more adventurous this season. Seriously, the time to explore your liquid liner options is now. Just look how awesome the models’ eyes are at Elisabetta Franchi and Anteprima. There may not be a set guideline to follow, but know that experimentation is encouraged. Think of it like calligraphy for your eyes.

Stained Lips

You can always expect deeper lip colors to come in to play once fall hits, but textures and finishes are the wildcard every season. This fall, stained lips in deep berry hues are the look. When decorating a bare glowing complexion the look reads as youthful but sophisticated. The lips at Chalayan (left) were a true stain—juicy in the middle and a soft fade outwards, while the lips at 3.1 Phillip Lim were courtesy of a not-yet-released NARS shade, VIP, applied just the slightest bit imperfectly.

Lived-In Makeup

You know that effortless smokey eye you get when you sleep in your makeup? Yeah, that’s in now. Subtle or bold, let your liner wander with richly pigmented dark sooty colors that give your eyes that sexy dreamy look. The best part is that you can do it with a liner or shadow and blend with your finger. Depending on how you wear it, it can look lady-like, as seen at Diane Von Furstenberg on the left, or badass and gritty worn by the models at Alexandre Vauthier on the right.

Metallic Eye Makeup

If there is one place to shine on your face, it’s definitely your eyes. Chromatic shades with a foil-like finish, seen at Elie Saab Haute Couture and Zac Posen look stunning in pretty much any color, bright or subdued, and they’re coming in hard for fall. Dior Beauty just released its fall collection which features gorgeous metallic shadows, if that’s any indication of what a high fashion look this is.

Earth-tone & Neutral Palettes
One color scheme that keeps popping up time and time again is one that does so because it’s so flattering and wearable on everyone. Lots of beige and brown neutral tones in makeup show off great luminous skin, but with an added natural depth. Contour may be nearing its end, but we’ll keep it around a bit longer if it lends our eyes and cheeks a naturally sculpted look. The models at Stella McCartney (left) and Chloe (right) looked like they were barely wearing makeup but still had a sophisticated shadowing in all the flattering places.

Pink Makeup

Usually more of a Spring hue, pink in nearly all variations was heavily featured for the fall shows. Probably because it’s just really pretty on everyone. Depending on how you wear it—rosy and sheer or neon hot, pink is the color to make a statement with. Femininity seemed to rule the runways so it’s no surprise that pink would be the representative shade. Au Jour Le Jour‘s flat hot pink eyes veered more fierce than girly, while the neon fuchsia lips at Armani Privé gave the models a fun party pout. Dior Haute Couture‘s sheer rosy eyes were a dream of a look we can’t wait to sport.

Power Brows

Did you think big bold brows were going anywhere? Well, they aren’t. A bit of a redux on something we’ve already loved for a while now, the brows at Jil Sander (left) and Diesel (right) were the star of the look. You really don’t need much else but a sheer wash of pink blush and soft natural lips for this understated look.

Textured Beachy Hair

Yes, it’s still happening, long after summer is through. Easy textured hair that’s more soft than it is crunchy will be the fall calling for those with the length to show it off. The big appeal is in the “I woke up like this” attitude and vibe of this hairstyle. It might take a curling wand to get those waves, but once you have them feel free to let them live as recklessly as you dare—they even look better slept on. Etro’s models on the left took it in a bit of a vintage ’70s direction while Anna Sui‘s models on the right wore their waves like wildlings.
