Celebrity fashion stylist Micaela Erlanger is the woman behind the stunning style of A-listers including Lupita Nyong’o, Michelle Dockery, and Hayden Panettiere. Considering she was just named #3 on The Hollywood Reporter’s 2014 Most Powerful Stylists list, her influence in the fashion world is pretty significant. She recently partnered with Dove for the premiere of their #OneShowerChallenge and how beautiful skin coexists with style. We recently chatted with Erlanger about how she preps her clients for fashion week and other big events and the new trend she’s excited about.

StyleBlazer: Can you share the overall process of getting your clients ready to attend a show during Fashion Week?

Micaela Erlanger: It is always a collaboration. Between stylist, client and of course the designer.

SB: And what about the process for a major event like the Oscars?

ME: You have to think about the big picture. I like to think of it as storytelling in a way. Again, it’s always a collaboration with my clients. We find inspiration and then look for pieces that fall in line with that idea or feeling.

SB: What is the key element to ensuring a client lands on the best dressed list?

ME: Confidence is everything and of course having a gorgeous gown helps.

SB: Which trends are you most excited about your clients wearing this fall and into spring 2015?

ME: It’s gonna be all about the ’60s! I’m so excited for the shift dress to have a comeback!

SB: Lastly, what is the number one fashion rule that the everyday girl should follow to look her best at all times?

ME: Great style starts with beautiful skin, and that is easy to achieve when using new Dove Body Wash, which gives softer, smoother skin after just one shower. When picking a look, choose a focal point and show it off whether it’s a cut out, low back, bare arms, etc. Own your look!
