‘We aimed for the wedding to look elegant and timeless,’ says bride Kirsty when I asked her about the look and style of her wedding. Kirsty and David’s big day was without a doubt, a simply elegant and timeless wedding. The couple got married on the 28th May 2016 at Hopetoun House in South Queensferry in Scotland.

The couple actually met at school and were together for nine years before getting engaged ( 11 years in total by the time of the wedding). According to Kirsty, the proposal was not particularly romantic, but very special to her as it was very ‘David.’ ‘I had been working all day and David, in the spur of the moment, had gone out, bought the ring and proposed when I got home, ‘explains Kirsty. ‘Before he got down on one knee, I was about to have  a row with him for not having done the list of household tasks I had asked him to do that day! Of course, when I saw the beautiful ring and realised what he had been doing that day, all was forgiven.’

Kirsty found her stylish Martina Liana wedding dress at the bridal boutique Eleganza Sposa in Glasgow. As the couple are Scottish, David wore a kilt from MacGregor and MacDuff, the tartan was called Highland Granite. ‘My bridesmaids looked gorgeous in full length taupe dresses by Dessy,’ says Kirsty. ‘The flower girl wore a ballerina length ivory dress and the page boy wore a kilt to match the groomsmen.’

Kirsty was lucky enough to have help from her mother when it came to the wedding planning. ‘My mum made all the stationery for the wedding and so everything matched beautifully,’ says Kirsty. ‘For the wedding breakfast. we had gorgeous name tags tied to all of the chairs with ribbons and personalised menus for everyone too.’

According to Kirsty, the highlight of her day was the ceremony. ‘We had a humanist ceremony and our celebrant (Evonne McLaughlin) did an amazing job of sharing our story with our guests, ‘ says Kirsty. ‘There were tears and lots of laughter throughout. Sometimes when planning a wedding, it is easy to get carried away with all of the little details and forget the real reason for the day itself. So many of our guests commented on how lovely our ceremony was, and I am now so glad we spent the time we did sharing our story and planning with Evonne ahead of the ceremony.’
