If you are planning a rustic wedding theme, take inspiration from Maria and Shaun’s big day. The couple’s summer wedding took place at Leeds Town Hall last year. The couple first met at a club night in Newcastle at university. They dated for 15 years before getting engaged. ‘I was proposed to during a live performance from members of one of our favourite bands, Oceansize,‘ says Maria.
Maria’s needle & thread wedding dress is the perfect choice for a simple and rustic wedding theme. Her friend designed and made a beautiful comb for her hair, embellished with a silk flower, leaves and beading. ‘Our wedding was quite simple,’ says Maria. ‘We made use of rustic decorations, hessian, burlap and lace bunting and summer seasonal flowers.’
All the bridal bouquets and buttonholes at the couple’s wedding are by local florist called Arts & Flowers For those of you brides who like the idea of ‘just picked, wild flowers,’ have a look at Maria and Shaun’s very pretty flowers.
According to Maria, the highlight of the day was the ceremony. ‘It was so wonderful and we loved every minute of it,’ says Maria.
Do you like the idea of involving your family in your big day like Maria did? ‘My supremely talented sister, with the help of her husband, modified a baby trike so that one of the bridesmaids could push our baby daughter down the aisle,’ Maria explains. ‘Liz used an old vintage dress which belonged to our daughter to decorate it, as well as lace tape to completely cover the trike in ivory fabrics, lace and frills. Her husband fitted a basket to hold her toys for the day and Liz attached artificial flowers to the handle for extra effect. It looked amazing and was a wonderful surprise for everyone.’
