How many times have you been to a party and loved what a particular woman is wearing and then looked at her accessories, and thought, ‘they don’t match,’ they are not as lovely as her dress.’ etc?
I can’t stress how important it is to find the right veil or bridal hair accessories. There is no point in investing thousands of pounds in a beautiful wedding dress without finding the perfect finishing touches. And don’t rush the process. By that I mean don’t rush out the week before your big day to find a tiara, comb, veil or headpiece. Just as finding your dress took time, so will finding the perfect bridal hair accessory.
Edwina Ibbotson of Edwina Ibbotson Millinery, who has studied millinery in London, New York and Paris took time out from her busy schedule to offer her advice. ‘Try on many different styles, if a piece does not scream out at you, and you don’t fall in love with it, then it probably is not the perfect piece for you,’ she says.
‘If you having something made, work with the milliner, they will always be happy to incorporate your own ideas within the piece. Think about not only what goes with your outfit but also what will suit the time and place you are getting married. Choose a piece you are still going to love in 20 years time, you do not want to look back at wedding photos and think ‘what was I thinking!
Brides do occasionally bring their dresses with them, but as I make to order, they more often than not show me photos or sketches of their dress, along with a fabric swatch and I can help and advise them with that. If for example they are having their dress made at a London Bridal Boutique, I am happy to go along to a fitting with them if it is helpful.’ she explains.
