Last week on the blog, we were delighted to announce that Sarah (one of our interior designers from the Design Service) would be taking part in an exciting Q&A on the Laura Ashley Facebook page.

Joining us at H.Q on Friday afternoon, we sat down with Sarah as she shared her expert advice, answering all of your home decorating questions. From brightening up a dark space in your home to choosing the perfect winter curtains, read on to discover more of Sarah’s top tips…

Josette Goblet-Headed Made to Measure Curtains

Yinka asks… What are the best type of curtains for the living room to keep in warmth, yet still look stylish?

Sarah: With all our made to measure curtains we have the option of interlining which has thermal properties to lock in the heat and keep out the cold. For a contemporary look, I would chose a deep heading on full length curtains. For further details, read our curtain buying-guide here.

Berkley Scroll Wallpaper in Pewter / Abinger Tripod Floor Lamp

Sarah asks… I‘m looking to create a feature wall in my living room but I’m not really sure where to start? I want a pattern that is neutral but still striking.

Sarah: I would suggest a neutral wallpaper with a metallic print on top, such as the Cottonwood Natural Wallpaper which adds detail without being too dominant. Place the wallpaper on a focal wall such as where the fireplace is, or where you want to create an area of interest.

Josette Dove Grey Bedlinen / Majesty 5 Arm Chandelier / Alena Large Mirror

Aisling asks… I’m looking to update my bedroom. What can you suggest for something that is cool but won’t date?

Sarah: A grey and white colour scheme offers a contemporary style, but still retains a timeless look. Take a peek at our classic Josette collection that includes wallpaper, bedlinen and accessories. You could add some glass touches to your room with our lighting range, the Aria is a fabulous option.

Langham Two Seater Sofa in Caitlyn Sable / Rene Mirror / Pale Sable Paint

Corrie asks… My whole house is quite small, but in particular my living room. Is there anything I could do to make the room appear bigger?

Sarah: Mirrors give the illusion of a larger room as they reflect the light and visual space. They don’t always have to be placed above the fireplace, so don’t be afraid to be creative with shapes and sizes such as the Capri Round Mirror.

Ashdown Bed / Ashdown Large Storage Box / Ninette Pink Bedlinen

Jo asks…  I’m looking for extra storage for my guest room but I want it to look stylish, not too cramped! Do you have any suggestions?

Sarah: The Prestbury storage bench is a practical storage solution that also brings a decretive touch to any room. If you want to showcase your storage, why not try the Provencale Armoire to display bed linen, books or even crockery!
