This week, singer/songwriter Jesse Boykins III has released his highly anticipated new mixtape, BARTHLOMEW in partnership with LANDR. Hailed as “reminiscent of Maxwell or D’Angelo” by Huffington Post, Jesse’s garnered praise from the likes of NPR, Billboard, EBONY Magazine, Stuff Fly People Like, The New Yorker, Fader, MSNBC, GQ, i-D Magazine, Wax Poetics and more.

LANDR is the online mastering tool that has mastered over 2 million tracks worldwide. They’ve launched an ongoing initiative to give back to their community of half a million music creators via their new Artist In Residence program, of which Jesse is the inaugural featured artist. With BARTHOLOMEW Jesse initiates a conversation on everyday obstacles that are a part of the human experience, expressing reality in a surreal setting and the balance of the feminine and masculine psyche.

“BARTHOLOMEW is for the Planet Earth. Just like solar power & natural energy. Love without restraints or rules.” says Jesse Boykins III.

Written by Jesse and recorded in Los Angeles, the project follows Jesse’s previously released record, Love Apparatus, an opus on self-exploration and the true meaning of love. Threading together a plethora of influences (reggae, jazz, soul, hip-hop, experimental, electronic) with themes of self-love/acknowledgement, creative freedom was the driving force behind BARTHOLOMEW. With knockout features from a fleet of reliable talent like Isaiah Rashad, Mick Jenkins, Willow Smith, Audio Push, DeJ Loaf, Noname, Kilo Kish, Little Simz, Syd, Melanie Fiona, Luke James, Bridget Kelly, Trinidad James, Donnie Trumpet and more, plus production from MeLo-X, Dot da Genius, J Davey, and Machinedrum, the final product is a sonically rich treat for the ears.

A documentary and short film, alongside music videos, will subsequently follow the record. Local Los Angeles film crew We Are Famous also documented the recording experience and collaboration with LANDR engineers in Los Angeles in a behind-the-scenes 6-minute documentary.

To celebrate the release of BARTHOLOMEW Jesse will perform live with special guests at New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl on Wednesday, August 17th. Jesse will perform new music off the album as well as cuts from his past projects Love Apparatus, Zulu Guru, Way of Wayfarer, The Beauty Created, My Life On My Back and more. Tickets for the special performance are on sale now via Ticketfly.

BARTHOLOMEW comes after years of consistent touring from the Chicago born singer/songwriter. After being selected for Red Bull’s Red Bull Music Academy, touring the world extensively, Jesse released his Love Apparatus project in 2014, his first since the release of his 2011 EP Way of Wayfarer. In between the EP and Love Apparatus, Jesse also released a collaborative effort with acclaimed producer MeLo-X, the eccentric Zulu Guru album. In 2008, Jesse Boykins III first came to prominence with the release of his albums My Life On My Back and The Beauty Created, both of which garnered Jesse acclaim across the gamut and eventual features and praise. Additionally, Jesse Boykins III can be seen making his mark in fashion, with features in campaigns for Bergdorf Goodman, Timberland, and Liebeskind.
