cheerskait:

Anon asked me what my favorite pens are and how much they cost.

Oh, anon. I adore this question. I adore you for asking this question. It gives me an excuse to geek out for a sec. As if I don’t do that enough.

Let’s get one thing straight: I love pens. Always have. But I have some criteria for what i like:

they must be fine or extra-fine point.

Gel ink, but not too inky. (with one exception - noted below)

Black ink (with some exceptions - noted below)

Pilot Frixion Ball 0.5 and Slim 0.38  - $4 and $3, respectively. (jetpens.com)  These are amazing little pens, because they are completely erasable. They’re essential to my monthly calendar because things always change. These are Japanese imports, but you can buy the American Frixions in all regular stores. Those are a bit more inky and medium point, but also worth a try in a pinch.

Uni Style Fit polka dot multipen, 3 cartridge - price varies. my setup was around $7. (jetpens.com / ebay) This is basically a create your own three-color multipen. You pick the ink colors, tip width, and outside casing (they have some really cute ones)! This used to be my favorite ever, but I find I’m not using color as much. I usually use color only in revising/rewriting my notes and studying for tests. Regardless, the ink is really smooth with these, and it’s a kind of awesome concept. For an alternate brand I’ve loved the Pilot Coleto for years (also available at jetpens)

Muji gel pen 0.38 (amazon/muji.us) - less than $2 each. For me, right now it’s all about Muji. If you live near a store, I suggest checking that out. If you’re in the uncharted depths of suburbia, like me, you can find some products on amazon.com - a pack of 10 pens is $17. Muji also has an online store at muji.us, but the pens are out of stock at the moment.

Uniball Signo broad, in white - around $4 each (amazon) - I love writing with white ink on kraft paper, and this does the job nicely.

Pilot G2 0.5 or extra fine. - 2 pack around $4 (target, amazon, etc.) * not pictured. If you’re not down for the harder to find pens, these are a good alternative. These used to be my one and only, but the clicker really bothers me. This is really a weird thing, I know, but I have a really adverse reaction to the clicking sounds of this particular pen. Anyway, these are good because you can pretty much find them anywhere - at least in the US - though usually only in medium point.

Zebra 301 ballpoint 0.5 - 2 pack $5. These are the only ballpoint pens I really like to write with. They are ultra thin and light, and look really smart with their aluminum body !

And, I know you didn’t ask, but my other favorite writing utensils include Monami Essenti-soft Highlighters, $1 each (jetpens.com), Pilot Frixion erasable markers around $2 each (jetpens.com), and Zebra 301 mechanical pencil in 0.5, around $5 for a pack of 2.

And there you have it, anon. A love letter to my favorite pens.
