I’m just going to say it. I’ve had it with zombies.

I could fill a page with all the high-profile monster-movie releases in recent memory, and still I’d be hard pressed to finish this line with the ones that were worth the time.

It’s not that I’m aloof to the moral gray area in deciding how to cope with a flesh-eating creature that used to be my brother-in-law. Nor do I think stumbling around and eating brains is entirely unamusing. More so, I think we’ve charted the territory, and I am ready to move on.

The good news is: you can help!

This September, StoryStudio will offer Screenplay in a Year, a multi-session course where students will discuss the craft of screenwriting, solve story issues, workshop scenes, and build a writer’s network over snacks and beverages. By the end of the course students will have polished (or at least made some serious headway on) their own original screenplay.

Whatever your screenwriting goals may be, Screenplay in a Year will provide you with the tools you need to get your ideas out of your head, onto paper, and in shape for production. You’ll collaborate with other screenwriters, receive helpful and constructive feedback on your work, and experience the urgency of meeting regular deadlines. Whether you’re working on next summer’s zombie blockbuster or the best screenplay with an all-living cast, we want to help you make it happen.

So, what will it be?

The Adaptation
You’ve been convinced since the 8th grade that Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath was meant for the big screen. In fact, you already know who you’ll cast as Pa Joad.

The CG-Eye-gasm
Your screenplay contains so many seizure-inducing battle sequences and explosions that critics won’t remember there wasn’t a script.

The Monster Drama
Maybe it was just a scratch. Maybe your protagonist’s beloved sister won’t become a zombie like everyone else. That abandoned trailer looks like a good place to rest….

The Psychological Thriller
Nothing makes sense until the big reveal in the five minutes of the film.  Then, you’re a GENIUS!

The Future

Got a big idea? Something Hollywood has never seen before? There’s no better time than now to get the ball rolling on your trend-setting screenplay.
