Chef Mitchel

PRESS RELEASE - Executive Chef Nigel Mitchel of Ladera’s award-winning Dasheene restaurant brought a taste of St. Lucia to New York City’s Condè Nast Publishing, one of the top publishing houses in the world.

This week, as the featured guest chef at the building’s staff restaurant, editors, executives, sales teams and administrators from popular publications including Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, Condè Nast Traveler, SELF, the New Yorker and Bon Appetit, enjoyed one of Chef Mitchel’s signature dishes, “Shrimp Dasheene.”

The Guest Chef Series at Condè Nast Publishing was initiated by premier food service company Restaurant Associates and is held in Condè Nast’s $40 million café. This series has been hosted by many culinary dignitaries including Rocco DiSpirito and Alain Ducasse.

“Chef Mitchel’s signature dish and Ladera were very well-received by the media professionals at Condè Nast,” said Vice President of Operations, Olivier Bottois. “We welcomed the opportunity to bring St. Lucia’s premier resort and dining destination to New York City, and to keep St. Lucia in general at the forefront of these influencer’s minds in such a positive manner.”

Shrimp Dasheene is a local St. Lucian specialty, deriving its name from the local root known in St. Lucia called dasheene. Chef Mitchel’s interpretation is prepared with butterflied sautéed shrimp, diced white onion, red, green and yellow bell pepper, chives, grated ginger, a splash of grenadine syrup and topped with his custom blend of fresh local seasonings.

Ladera is the only resort in the Caribbean ever rated best hotel in the world by Condè Nast Traveler.
