ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Mardi Gras isn’t for another two weeks, but St. Louis police have been planning for the celebration for more than a month now.
Police Chief Sam Dotson says the celebration in Soulard takes a lot of planning and cooperation.
“Well, St. Louis is touted as having the 2nd largest Mardi Gras celebration in the country. And that’s something that we’re proud of, but it takes a significant commitment of resources,” says Dotson.
He says they’ve cancelled officer time off and worked with the Mardi Gras Committee and local businesses to make sure everything goes smoothly that Sunday.
Police are also working with local businesses to stop selling alcohol an hour earlier this year than in years past, in an effort to cut down on crime.
Last call will be at 7 o’clock.
