St. Louis (KMOX) – Four St. Louis area Republicans are set to debate over two different methods of taxation. Historian Lloyd Sloan, Republican Committeeman Ken Newhouse, St. Charles County Republican Committeeman Candidate Joseph Wetter and State Representative Andrew Koenig will be the participants.

Koenig and Wetter will join sides to debate in favor of the “FairTax,” while Newhouse and Sloan will debate in favor of “No MO Sales Tax.”

Sloan said, “It’s a good opportunity for St. Louis area Republicans to join together in a friendly debate on taxation in Missouri. Our party seems to be divided on which method of taxation is best for the state. Missouri ranks 48th in the state for growth, and that needs to change.”

Sloan, who is also the co-founder of No MO Sales Tax, a Continuing PAC in Missouri wants to slowly lower and eventually eliminate sales tax in the state. Sloan said, “Sales Taxes are regressive and hurt lower to middle income families the most in the state. Also the thing that bugs me most about sales tax is that it forces small businesses to be tax collectors for the government. We want to take the burden off of working class Missouri and small businesses who drive our economy.”

Koenig and Wetter want to do the opposite in Missouri. Both of the individuals support the FairTax which eliminates income tax in Missouri while replacing it with a higher sales tax.

The debate is set to be held at the Midwest Music Conservatory in Ballwin, MO. On Friday, November 1st at 6:30 p.m. Sloan told KMOX that admission is free and the venue seats up to 450 people.
