Here’s what to wear on a plane to stay stylish and comfortable this summer!

WHAT TO WEAR: EUROPEAN VACATION

Journeying across the pond? Channel your inner French-girl with a striped tee in navy & white to lounge around the terminal in. Light-wash jeans are très chic, especially with pointy-toed d’Orsay flats. Slip them off to slide through security faster than your fellow passengers.

Stylist Tip: Don’t forget to bring your favorite lipstick with you! You can repurpose it as an on-the-go cheek stain for a rosy flush.

WHAT TO WEAR: TROPICAL ESCAPE

Getting some Vitamin D this summer? Breeze through security in a brightly-hued maxi dress—the only alarm you’ll be setting off will be everyone’s style radar. This dress will keep you warm on the plane, and ready for sunshine once you step onto the tarmac. Disguise a nap from the flight attendant with a fedora—you’ll also prevent it from getting crushed in your suitcase.

Stylist Packing Tip: Wear a jacket on the plane to free up space in your luggage for added warmth during the flight. Shed it as soon as you land—it’ll be hot, hot, hot!

WHAT TO WEAR: BACHELORETTE TRIP

Flying out to celebrate your pal’s impending nuptials? Get into party mode with a jumpsuit or romper. Pack your in-flight essentials in a boho bag, with room for the book you’ve been waiting to read, and brighten up your outfit with a white denim jacket. Just make sure your neighbor doesn’t spill on you!

Stylist Tip: Even if your final destination is somewhere warm & sunny, skip the shorts for the flight. Instead, wear a lightweight linen pant—a chic and cozy alternative to leggings.

Traveling in colder weather? Here’s what to wear on a plan in fall and winter!

What To Wear: Athleisure

If you love kicked-back style but don’t want to wear your gym clothes, try sporting athleisure—the most comfortable trend ever. It’s the best (and most stylish) excuse to wear your fashion sneakers, which are perfect for walking (or running) from gate to gate. Trade in your traditional leggings for a sleek faux-leather version, don your favorite striped knit top, then throw on a belted trench in a fall pop-color for a totally put-together plane look.

Pro Packing Tip: If you’re planning on hitting the gym (or going for an after-turkey stroll) wear your athletic shoes on the plane to conserve suitcase space. Just make sure the rest of your outfit fits into “athleisure” instead of “gym.”

What To Wear: Holiday Travel

Headed to spend the holidays with your in-laws? Step off the tarmac feeling fresh & polished in a casual dress-flats combo. The key to making your dress plane-approved? Opt for wool or other heavy-weight winter fabric to survive the blasting cold air. Layer a cardigan under a jean jacket to further regulate the temperature (it’s also just a cool play on proportions). Then, if it’s super chilly where you’re headed, make sure you wear some textured tights.

Pro Packing Tip: Carry on an oversized tote as your handbag (it’s a TSA hot tip!) so that you can walk on with all of your toiletries. Then, you have easy access to your face wipes and toothbrush post-flight.

Try power dressing! A look that’s tonal makes a real statement when you travel!

What To Wear: Business Trip

Need to impress for business or pleasure? Walk the (airport) runway in a look that gets the tonal treatment. Try pairing grey denim (black works, too) with a textured sweater and lightweight layering piece like a blazer or an oversized draped cardigan. Top the look off with stacked heels—the most comfortable of the high-heel family. But if you’ve got a far gate, just put your heels in your tote and throw them on after you land.

Pro Packing Tip: The more layers the better! The more you’re wearing means the less you’ll be packing in your suitcase. Plus, you never know how the temperatures might change from airport to plane to your arrival city.
