Grape Day Out Wine Festival in Stellenbosch (3 August)
Looking for a reason to get all gussied up? Well look no further, the second annual Grape Day Out Wine Festival is billed to transform the Woodmill in Stellenbosch into a student-centred fashion, food and wine extravaganza on Saturday, 3 August 2013. Pair haute couture with some of the finest vinos from the area for a day to remember in the Winelands. Not to mention, visitors can expect free wine tastings from 11am to 3pm, a fashion show featuring young designers from top fashion schools in Cape Town and surrounds, a “Best Dressed” contest for those who catch the judges’ eyes and so much more.

Roberston Slow Food and Wine Festival (9 – 11 August)
Win(e)d down and take it easy at the 7th annual Robertson Slow Food and Wine Festival from Friday, 9 to Sunday, 11 August 2013. Devoted to the art of slow-cooking, Robertson Slow is serving up the finest traditional country fare cooked in the homes of the winemaking families of the area. The 26 participating wineries and guest houses each have unique menus, wine selections or activities planned, so there is something for everyone.

Tickets: Each event is individually priced and must be booked with the participating venue. Prices for activities range from FREE to R2500p/p depending on what you choose. Click through to the event for more information. Don’t be too slow, bookings close on Wednesday, 7 August 2013.

Hermanus Wine and Food Fair (9 – 10 August)
The entire family will have a whale of a time at one of South Africa’s top 10 wine festivals, the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair, from Friday, 9 August to Saturday, 10 August 2013. This ultimate indulgence fiesta is a country-style celebration of reds and whites from the Elgin to Elim areas as well as the award-winning wines from the rest of the Overberg region. Visitors can not only sip and sample these fine vintages, but they can also purchase them at cellar door prices and have them shipped to anywhere in the world (including Antarctica, which they have indeed been delivered to). There will also be plenty of food – think organic cheeses, freshly baked bread, pomegranate and organic sundried tomato products – from local stalls as well as gourmet fair from Pesto Princess and Piroschka’s Kitchen. What’s more, jumping castles, face painting and puppet shows at the children’s activity area are sure to keep the little ones entertained for hours at this big small town fiesta.

Tickets: Tickets are available at the door, via Computicket.com and at Computicket outlets and cost R120p/p for a one-day pass and R200p/p for a weekend pass. Price includes crystal wine glass and information booklet as well as access to all areas. No under-18s will be allowed in the wine marquee, and there are no ATMs at the venue, so have cash on hand.

Picnic at Simonsig

Seize the opportunity to taste and buy rare vintage gems and enjoy a family day out filled with hearty food, music and children’s activities at Simonsig’s Vintage Wine Day hosted on Saturday, 24 August when this landmark Stellenbosch estate showcases a fine selection of older signature wines held back for release at optimal maturity.   With vintages dating back to the early 90’s, cellarmaster Johan Malan has dug deep to share his private selection from the stash of Simonsig greats which will be available exclusively at the Simonsig Vintage Wine Day. Wine enthusiasts keen to learn more and take an in-depth look at these wines should not miss Johan’s master classes presented at the Vintage Wine Day. Offered free of charge exclusively to festival goers, these classes will offer interactive vertical wine tastings and will start at 11h00 and 14h00. Only a limited amount of Master Class seats are available, for reservations emailinfo@dnaevents.co.za.The Vintage Wine Day at Simonsig Estate takes place on Saturday, 24 August 2013 from 10h00 noon until 17h00. Limited tickets costing R150 per person, including a tasting glass are available either online atwww.webtickets.co.za or at the gate. Under 18s are free but must be accompanied by an adult. The Red Table at Nederburg:

We feature this restaurant because the food is arranged by our partner company, Dish food & Social. On Friday nights from May to September, the eatery offers patrons a choice between regularly-changing set seasonal menus, and à la carte dishes. Expect hearty winter dishes and decadent desserts! Booking is essential.

The à la carte menu features food for everyone, with prices for starters starting at R50, mains at R95 and desserts at R35 a dish. Kids are also catered for. Vegetarians and those with special dietary needs can be accommodated. Daily chef’s specials are also on offer. A wide selection of Nederburg wines is offered by the glass, and the entire range is available by the bottle at very reasonable prices.
