LITTLEFIELD, Ariz. – Two men are listed in critical condition Monday following a rollover on Interstate 15 in Arizona.
Around 3: 45 p.m., Arizona time, troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety were notified of a single-vehicle rollover on southbound I-15 near milepost 8, Arizona DPS Trooper Gregg McBride said.
The rollover occurred about one mile south of Littlefield, Arizona.
The first trooper at the scene found a severely damaged red, late-90s model Chevrolet Camaro that had come to rest in the median. He also informed other responding troopers that there were two occupants from the car that had been ejected.
The rollover appears to have been caused by the right-rear tire blowing out, McBride said.
The driver, a 39-year-old man from Littlefield, Arizona, and a passenger, a 38-year-old man from Cedar City, were listed in critical condition and appeared to have head trauma, McBride and ADPS Sgt. John Bottoms said.
Names of the individuals involved were not released at the time pending notification of family members.
The two men were tended to by responding medics from the Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Department. They were then transported to one of the fire stations where Life Flight and Mercy Air medical helicopters were waiting.
Neither Bottoms or McBride were able to confirm if the men were flown to either Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George or University Medical Center in Las Vegas for care.
Southbound traffic around the accident slowed as traffic was diverted into a single lane and motorists took their time to gawk as the wreckage.
People need to check their tires and make sure they are in usable condition, McBride said, especially this time of year during the heat. At the time, thermometers measures the temperature of the area to be around 108 degrees.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
